Is QuickTime the only plugin to see MOV on Vegas?

Robert-Luckett wrote on 4/12/2021, 9:22 AM

My IT department frowns on anything that isn't supported on Windows 10 platform. Which is QuickTime. Are there other options to get MOV files to work in Vegas? I have a huge collection on in/outs/lower thirds that I don't want to convert to MP4 in order to use. VLC didn't fix the issue. We just installed Vegas on a new machine and ran into this issue. Thanks

What kind of mov file? Vegas works with many natively.

Use this to determine the type of codec in your mov container: https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

When converting to mp4 your mov collection will loose the transparency. I don't know no other solution besides reinstalling Quicktime.

You could also convert your mov files into avi formats that support alpha--e.g. GrassValleyHQX and MagicYUV, both of which decode very nicely in Vegas.

Perfect ! Thank you.

Stop!

Avid DNX files in mov container do not play nice with Vegas.... YMMV, test this first!'

IMO you want to use GrassValley codecs in .avi container as wwaag has recommended. I use these frequently and they work very well with Vegas. Only disadvantage is Vegas only supports 8 bit for this format/container combination. Alpha is supported.

[sigh /] So much speculation, so little information.......................................................... [/]

Fact: There are thousands of possible codec combinations in the MOV container, many of which are supported natively using Vegas libraries for Windows.

But we won't know until we know which codec combination and decoders are being used for your file.

OK, but while we wait for the OP to post what format he already has, I would point out that we know he does not want to use mp4, does not want to install deprecated quicktime, his current mov files don't d&d into Vegas, and he needs transparency ("lower thirds...") for me that thins out the possibilities, um..."dramatically." :)
