Jello effect when zooming with pan/crop

Video_flaneur wrote on 9/16/2017, 5:21 PM

I am using pan/crop in VP13 to zoom into a high quality tif image, but part of the zoom is resulting in a jello effect. I am rendering to a Main Concept AVC Internet HD template. I have no other fx applied. Any suggestions on how to cure this?

I don't seem to be able to upload the short mp4 to the forum so here is an outside link to the video. (It has gone through Vimeo , but the jello was in the original mp4)

Looks like maybe something is interlaced?

Providing source an render properties will help.

A couple of things to check. (or uncheck) 1: Uncheck "adjust source media..." 2: Uncheck: "allow source to adjust frame rate..." 3: You have a 24 fps project rendering to a 29.97fps. Make it consistent.

Thanks David. I adjusted the 3 things you suggested but the problem persists.

Try and increase the bitrate. Also disable resampling.

Thank you OldSmoke. Still no improvement. It only happens within a certain range of zoom while tighter and wider zooms are fine. I am beginning to think there might be some sort of moire effect because the tif consists of large numbers of vertical and horizontal lines and as the spacing of these lines approach the output resolution, strange things may be occurring.

I think it's because of the algorithms processing in Vegas. its all about resolution! Use a smaller image.Resize to 1920x1080, its little bit of blurry = but no jelly. Reduce the sharpness.

Try changing "Full-resolution rendering quality" to "Best". From the help: "Good uses bilinear scaling without integration, while Best uses bicubic scaling with integration. If you're using high-resolution stills (or video) that will be scaled down to the final output size, choosing Best can prevent artifacts."

Also perhaps try checking "Use deblocking filter" in the render settings.

Yeah, what he said. :)

Hi res detailed lines do this on all displays. Even in video games it happens.

Thank you all. As I suspected above, the fine vertical lines were the villains. By placing the image on a slight diagonal the jello zone is negotiated with minimal distortion. This workaround will suit my purposes. Thanks for the input - I continue to learn from everyone's suggestions. You can see a comparison of the two videos at this external link.
