Judder after rendering video!

shayne-minott wrote on 11/23/2017, 10:16 AM

Hi

I am having a problem with rendering clips with video and stills! basically i am getting judder (looks almost jerky like skipped framerates) on the tracking and panning after rendering the clips more obvious @ 25 fps. The Strange thing is that it happens worse at times and even @30fps when in the past.... i got smooth motion @30fps and slightly jerky movement @25fps. The playback on the same clip without changes tends to be worse at certain times and other times fine! never had this problem before!

I have taken a week break from my pc in the past and come back to render and seemed fine but then it acts up again!

If anyone could suggest what the problem could be? it would be appreciated!

It happens on Sony vegas pro 15 and platinum 10

Pc specs:

i5

8gb ram

Graphics card: Geforce GTX 750 Ti

Windows 10

thanks Shayne

Thank you for the reply!

I have to set the project @ 25fps and a 30fps version... not sure about sharing veg file without contents?

My Render settings are:

Sony Avc (mpeg 4) HD (1920x1080)

Profile: Baseline

Frame rate: 25fps and a 30 fps version

Field order: Progressive

Pixel aspect ratio: 1,000

Bit rate 16 000 000

Encode on CPU even if gpu is available ticked!

Have tried with Adjust source footage better to match project render setting both ticked and not ticked!

I started the project with a 29,970 timeline! there are some clips where ive shot @50fps and some stills i have used to track with the pan crop tool using keyframing. the rest is all stop motion clips (image sequences). I just find it strange that its worse at times and not too bad at other times! First time i rendered @ 30 fps it was perfect! Also i had the problem months ago with another project and then all of a sudden it stopped doing it and came right again!

Thank you

Something else ive noticed when playing it is that when watching the rendered clip! Is that it can be smoother at times watching the same rendered clip over.

Is your render interlaced or progressive?

fr0sty wrote on 11/24/2017, 1:13 AM

Try disabling resampling on all media clips (I think you can do it in the project media settings rather than having to do it clip by clip). I had issues with REALLY bad judder with video from a BlackMagic Cinema cam, and that fixed the problem.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

Hi guys thank you for the replys!

render is progressive and i always disable resample my clips. Ive set timeline to time & frames.. still got the same problem. Im playing back the videos with Media classic player and VLC player and noticing the judder! Like i said i never had this problem before with the same clips.. thats why i find it so strange. Now with the GPU acceleration of video processing do i set it on my CPU or Graphics card or none?

Thank you so far for your time!

"dynamic RAM Preview max (MB) 0

Max number of rendering threads 1"

Reset all that back to the defaults.

I would post a youtube video shot from a camera showing the problem. Then full detail screen shots of your project settings, pancrop setup, and render template details.

Tried GPU off... still same problem! I cant post anything off the actual video as it is for media. but i will post an example of what is happening. Ive tried both on my laptop and desktop with sony vegas pro 15 & platinum 10.. the original project is edited in platinum. i dont even know if it is judder because at times it looks irregular.

These are my settings for platinum 10 since this is where i started the project as i only recently got vegas 15. have tried in vegas 15 with exact same problem.

Sorry! Ill try be as clear as i can.... my project settings are @ 29.970 (i didnt know there was much of a difference from 29.970 and 30p) and i am rendering out a version @ 25p and a version @ 30p. I did start the project in sony vegas platinum and when i bought vegas pro 15 i brought the project up in pro 15 to see if it would make a difference (the judder, stutter or what ever it is) and i am still getting the same problem. The problem is not just with this project but it happens even if i bring in a photo and do a tracking (zoom in shot) with the event pan/crop tool.. the motion is not smooth at 25p or 30p but more noticeable @ 25p.

Just a few Weeks ago i never had this problem and i never changed anything within the program! i had the problem months ago with another project but then it seemed to have just sorted itself out.. at that point i thought it was maybe my desktop causing the problem. I am also overlooking some people probably wouldnt notice it.

Maybe @ 25p there might have been a little unsmooth motion. Is it possible to do a project in 25p... zoom in a photo with event/ pan/ crop tool and have a unsmooth motion?

heres another example of my problem:

I did a pan shot @ 50fps I then brought the clip into vegas and set the playback rate to 0,600 and rendering out @ 30fps and it played back smooth. The next time i rendered it out a few weeks later it came out unsmooth with no changes made in the software or settings. also way more choppy @ 25fps which i can understand.

I can post the same screenshots in vegas pro 15 if you want?

Thank you so much for your time guys! I hope this is clear! Just trying to figure this out as im pretty new to video.

No you don't have that luxury.

You must render at SOURCE frame rate and field order, because you do not have a chance at smooth playback otherwise!

shayne-minott wrote on 11/25/2017, 2:15 AM

thank you i will do that in the future!

I always render as progressive and not interlaced. For youtube i render with sony avc mpeg 4, 30fps, progressive.

I have done videos with mixed frame rates 50fps with shutter speed of 1/100 & 25fps with a shutterspeed of 1/50 with zoom in on stills and rendered out to 30fps progressive with smooth playback.

In future i will be doing videos "25fps PAL, h.264/mpeg4 HD1920x1080 possibly for South african telivision and mainly for youtube @ 30fps

I will post samples of my problem soon! so you can see what im talking about!

Here is an example using the event/pan/crop tool you will see slightly jerky movements! Some times it appears worse then other time at the same export settings!

shayne-minott wrote on 11/25/2017, 4:15 AM

Let me simplify this all! Say for instance i start a new project in Vegas, set the project settings to 29,970 or 30fps, progressive... simply import a jpeg photo add it to the timeline and do a simple zoom motion on the photo (with event/pan/crop tool) and export the video with the same frame rate. first time i do this it comes out perfectly smooth. now say i do the same render with the same settings a few hours later and it comes out with jerky movement? this is what is happening.

shayne-minott wrote on 11/25/2017, 6:03 AM

now that i watch it on youtube i couldnt see much of a problem either now! even the clip on my pc! makes me think it is a playback issue on my pcs. heres another example maybe you notice some jumps?

shayne-minott wrote on 11/25/2017, 6:09 AM

Ive been testing quiet a few clips @ 50fps 30fps 25fps slow pans fast pans etc.. sometimes the problem worse sometimes not! So strange. Ive done a few projects in the past with no issues and all mixed frame rates. this is why im so frustrated haha! i might just have to work around this somehow

sakendrick wrote on 2/2/2021, 4:37 PM

Not sure if this was ever resolved - I'm having the same issue in vegas pro 18. Panning a PNG - I've tried removing any fractions from the pan vs. pixel movement ratio as some have suggested, and tried a bunch of different render options. Tried making resample was off. Same kind of slight stutter demonstrated in the above clips.

Musicvid wrote on 2/2/2021, 5:38 PM

@sakendrick

Please start your own thread, as you are speaking on an entirely different topic than this one, which is now four years old.

shayne-minott wrote on 2/2/2021, 6:16 PM

I never resolved the problem on that particular project! But I havent had that problem again the future!

I guess it remains a mystery as the first time that project was rendered there was no issue & following renders it appeared!

hope you solve your issue!
