Media Offline, Black Preview, and Black Render with 4k

offroadguy56 wrote on 9/28/2018, 3:44 PM

Been using MSP 13 for a while. Had an issue with video audio tracks not importing, managed to fix that. But I'm having another issue with 4k video.

I have a 360 camera that stores video in 3840x2160. When I load those videos into MSP I get the thumbnails in the Media section and when I drag the videos to the timeline it tells me in the video section the "media offline" message. The audio previews fine. When I render the video it also renders as black video with the audio unaffected.

I've looked at other forum posts and tried different solutions, disabling the GPU hardware acceleration, disabling auto loading of project and media closure when not active. Nothing worked.

I should mention my VLC player has no problem replaying the videos before rendering.

Here's a screenshot of the program and video details.

If you have any troubleshooting tips for me before I look for another editing software let me know. If you need anymore info let me know.

Can you upload a virgin sample to a fileshare, please?

Also MS13 is a few years old now. Try downloading the 30 day trial of VMS15 to see if it handles your files better.

A 4 minute clip is being uploaded. Files size is about 2.8gb. Can be found here once it's finished. Until then I need to head to bed. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1syp5maTvS1mIwZx5fVIJ-epeFwVdy0cz/view%3Fusp%3Dsharing

WARNING!!! While attempting to download the clip I was subject to an attempted browser hijack and ransomware attack. Fortunately security software caught it.

PS. Not suggesting this is attributable to the OP but happened as soon as I clicked to download from the mediafire page. .

Clean download from the google link (you might want to edit the media fire link out of your earlier post).

I don't have much time to play today but ... Opened the file OK in MSP15 build 116 (not updating till I complete a project) in a 3840x2160 project with both video and audio. First load to the timeline did take a few minutes to complete with the media offline message showing until it was fully loaded - but after that it was fine. MSP 14 I got a 3840x2160 project but with video only and no audio. Don't have MSP13 but MSP12 gave me a 1920x1080 project with video but again with no audio.

cheers, Robbie

I see, I gave MSP13 15 to 30 minutes to attempt to load the video into the timeline, if that was the issue. I'll try again and give it plenty time to chug through.

I installed msp15 trial but got no icons anywhere to launch the program, so I'll be looking into that too.

No problem with VMS15 Build 146 using 3840 x 2160 project . But I had to be patient and let it create a proxy.

Rendering 30 sec to 4K mp4 was interesting. Had to use MainConcept to obtain 30.000 fps as per the original. If I tried to use QSV then after altering 29.970 to 30.000 I found the render template altered itself to 23.976!!! My 4k render played OK in VLC.

Took about 4 minutes for me..

The proxy file is 1280x720 so it will probably take as long as a normal render to that size, which will depend on your system specs. Until it's finished the timeline gives the "media offline" message. Once it's finished the thumbnails appear. The proxy file is a "sfvp0" file which appears in the same folder as your source file.

offroadguy56 wrote on 9/30/2018, 3:00 PM

Looks like its working now with MSP15. I get a progress bar at the bottom for creating a proxy. MSP13 doesn't display that. I've been wanting to get a NVME SSD but haven't had reason to replace my SATA SSD and benefit from the increased speeds. Think I should get one and use it for storing and editing these 4k videos? The Hero 7 Black is available now and I might be switching to that from my Rylo camera.

EricLNZ wrote on 9/30/2018, 6:37 PM

Good. Of course if your system can handle 4K without proxy files switch them off. Options/Preferences/Video and untick the appropriate box. Then when you drag the file to the timeline the thumbs should instantly appear without delay.

offroadguy56 wrote on 10/1/2018, 12:26 AM

MSP13 was able to handle the raw 4k footage without proxy. Only tested with 1 clip in timeline but that's good enough for me. I think I'll give MSP15 a test drive and see if it's worth switching over. I noticed it supports some image stabilization which I might be able to make use of.

EricLNZ wrote on 10/1/2018, 5:10 AM

There's a lot about VMSP15 that I like compared to MSP13. For a start the dark interface, normal size buttons in Preview pane, Rippling button not hidden in Config item.......

You will like the new UI of MS15. You will not need any afterwards image stabilization when filming with the new Hero7 Black with it's new hypersmooth stabilization. I got mine yesterday...unbelievable.

EricLNZ wrote on 10/2/2018, 4:19 AM

Actually isn't the image stabilisation FX in MS13? I don't have MS13 installed now so cannot check but I know I used it in MS12.

3POINT wrote on 10/2/2018, 4:59 AM

As I can remember is the image stabilization in MS13 the same as in MS15. Stabilizing 4k footage with MS15 gives often a systemcrash.
