.MOV files not supported on Vegas Pro 17

Mitchell-Soldato wrote on 2/13/2022, 10:05 AM

Every time I import my video (.MOV) to Vegas Pro, it does not error me and instead, it will not play the preview playback properly. Note that I am not new to making videos and I have had Vegas Pro 17 for a little bit now. I have tried to use the QuickTime plugin feature of Vegas Pro and nothing works, I have tried to download that same plugin, and still nothing. I've been searching the internet for quite some time now trying to find a solution to my problem and nothing seems to work?

I use an iPhone 13 and download all of my videos on my google drive.

My computer specs are: AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS with Radeon Graphics 3.00 GHz

More computer specs: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

My computer's version is windows 11.

I use Vegas Pro Version 17.0 (Build 455)

I have enabled QuickTime in the Deprecated Features tab of Preferences in Vegas Pro.

Video: Here is what's happening from my point of view

If anyone has any questions please ask. I will try to answer to the best of my ability and I hope to have this issue resolved.

@Mitchell-Soldato Hi, do you have Quicktime installed on your PC?

https://support.apple.com/en_US/downloads/quicktime

That .mov file is HEVC so you might need this & in File/IO is there a Legacy HEVC box to tick.

That is truly the most annoying screen capture I have ever seen.

You have posted on the Movie Studio forum. You will get better response if you post your Vegas Pro questions on the Vegas Pro forum.

@Former user I reinstalled QuickTime on my computer and then this showed up when I tried to open it:

Note that I actually do have it installed and for some reason is being goofy.

Is there really no other way to get by this bug without buying something to make it work?

@Mitchell-Soldato I just did a Google search

@Former user Thanks!

I opened my Vegas Pro 17.0 again and I am still facing the same issue as I was before, does this mean I have to buy the Microsoft HEVC Video Extension?

Also, is the QuickTime supposed to be stuck on the "Switching" part of loading? Here is what I mean:

Mitchell respectfully, your questions can all be answered from a standpoint of existing knowledge if you will post the requisite file properties asked for above. If your Vegas pro 17 even supports the format you shot in your iPhone 13 (not known), then you should not need any special external encoders from Apple or Microsoft.

Or, you can continue to speculate, entirely your choice. Either way, welcome to the forums.

@Mitchell-Soldato It's been a long time since i had to do it & i'm on V19, I don't know if V17 will open HEVC even if you buy that codec, it's only a few pence & if you have a PayPal account it pays & installs quickly so you could try it,

You might have to convert your media to AVC H.264, In your phone camera setting there's a setting to turn off HDR i think it's called on an iPhone, HEVC H.265 is new-ish & a lot of programs don't like it, even in V19 i avoid it, so if you're going to continue using V17 you might have to record in AVC H.264,

@Former user Thank you so much for helping me! All I needed to do was change the iPhone's format in settings! I appreciate your help very much! Have a great rest of your day!
