Movie Studio 16 Bad Frame Drops, and 100% CPU Usage

SwanADolphin wrote on 5/10/2021, 5:05 PM

Hello and thanks for clicking on this post,

Specs:

CPU-i5 8400

GPU-GTX 1070

Version: Movie Studio 16 Platinum (Whatever build is current)

In-depth Problem:
I used to edit video at 59.940 FPS at (I believe) 720p

I am now editing 60 FPS at 1080p and have since (obviously) started noticing some lag, which more recently has been my Movie Studio taking up 100% of my CPU as well as frame drops that

1. Fluctuate between 0 and 60 frames

2. Stop after each cut for a second

3.Completely freeze on fading

4. Can't seem to be solved by anything found in a YouTube Tutorial or on this site

What I've tried:

1. Turning GPU acceleration on and off

2.Increasing and decreasing Dynamic ram (from 200 down to 0, 100, or 150 As well as up to 250,300, 400, or 500 I have 15231 MB available)

3. Turning on and off Legacy GPU rendering (This one was a mistake but I thought I should mention it)

I know it's definitely the video because whenever I mute the video it plays at full FPS and the audio never lags.

Please help, and if there's anything you still need from me be sure to let me know :)

Certain types of newer files will not play well in Vegas 16 because they were not invented yet. Also your system may be on the low end. We will be able to guide you if you will provide the essential details, thanks.

I copied the requirements of -B essential information, the answers are as follows

VEGAS Version & Build

Version 16 Platinum Build 175

Windows Edition & Version

Windows 10 Home (I think, it wasn't too specific on which part it needed)

Camera/App that created your footage
OBS 26.1.1 MP4 file

Your Delivery Destination
Was meant to be YouTube, but the problems were in the preview so it didn't make it there

Exact symptoms of your problem

These are the same as mentioned above

Also what types of files classify as 'newer files'

That is not enough information, but thanks for what you did provide. The MediaInfo and Vegas File Properties will be the minimum necessary information in order to approach your last question. "MP4" can mean Almost anything. OBS can output hundreds of file combinations, some of which are not compatible with Vegas 16 for the reasons already stated, thanks.

I think this is the File Properties (I right clicked the file in the project media and copied everything in general)

I couldn't find the MediaInfo as you stated it, if it's something else could you tell me how to find it

And there's your answer. Vegas Movie Studio 16 Platinum does not work reliably with Variable Frame Rate video. Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 17 does, so you should feel encouraged to try the trial version, if you have more videos of this type. I suggest a basic x264 software encoder setting in OBS instead.

Here is a universal OBS preset that works transparently with all versions of Vegas.

Instructions for downloading and using MediaInfo are prominently displayed in a link I provided. I shall not repeat them here. Best of luck!

Thanks for the help, it seems to have worked (at least for now)

If I start having trouble again I'll look into getting 17
