Multi-cam - revert to non-multi-cam?

dand9959 wrote on 3/13/2009, 8:59 AM
Is there a way to return to "standard" editing, once I have enabled multicam and worked on the combined tally track to select shots?

In other words, after doing multicam, is there a way to either "exit" or "undo" my work and revert to my original multiple tracks or - even better - to expand the multicam tally track into separate tracks?

I made a script for this:
Takes To Tracks.

Thanks, Rosebud!

I love this forum!

Thank you so much. you just saved me hours of redoing a project. I messed it up real bad, due to not knowing how to use multicam fully before I just jumped in and realized it was way to late for a simple undo. I am an audio guy, who plays a video editor when needed. so some of these functions are completely foreign to me.

Thanks again

I do a lot of multicam work and always save the project as XXXXPreMC.veg after all clip synching and before creating the mc track [and then saving as XXXX.veg]. Saved my ass on more than one occasion.

I do that also, I am a firm believer in project file "versioning" .

I do have the fallback version, which I will have to resort to as the script did not work as I hoped, It did work as advertised , it split up the multicam into individual tracks, but recombining them into multicam ignores all of the previous cuts.

oh well... I am still waiting for that brain to software interface, then I can really think about what I want the software to do.

Please, can you explain me more.
If I rebuild the multicam project, all previous cuts are here.
saintom wrote on 3/17/2009, 4:36 PM
Thanks Rosebud,

The cuts are there, but only Camera 1 is "viewable" when playing back the project, meaning it no longer switches cameras after I rebuild the multicam track, the cuts are there but the video playback only shows Camera 1

I did notice that when I reverted to the non multicam that it "created" a blank Camera 1 track, I did not have a video track for C1 when I first made the multicam track, only aC2,C3, and C4.

Would that cause me to loose the "switching" after rebuilding the multicam track?

Ok, I see.
This the normal way how Vegas build the multicam Track.
I made this script to create PIP effect with several cameras, so generally I don’t need to revert to multicam track.
I can think to a specific script to rebuild the multicam track but I need to know more about your workflow.
Why do you need to revert to non multicam track ?

Thanks for helping with this.

Here is what I am doing: I am part of a production team that recorda audio and video for about about 10 symphony concerts a year. in various concert halls around town. We do live multi camera shoots, Normally I just take care of the audio for the CD and DVD surround mix, But on about 4 of the shows I do the video editing also.

My "method" this time ( I just upgraded from Vegas 5), was to take the 4 cameras import them, sync them, Tape 1 (or 4) of camera 1 was bad it had glitches and dropouts through out, I deleted it before I created the multi cam track, this means I don't have a Camera 1 in my multi cam set up for the first hour of the project. This is my confusion as to when I took the muti cam out of multi cam it created a "blank" video track .

The reason I wanted to revert to non multi cam in this instance, about 3/4 through editing this project I found one of my cameras was out of sync, with the other 3 and I needed to re-sync it.

I hope this make sense, I am not very good with the Video terms. I am learning as fast as I can, I know it is easier to get help if you ask the right question using the correct terminology.

Thanks

If your audio track is in sync, you can get the video to sync up. One way to achieve this would be to
1 - sync up the out-of-sync audio track with other 3 cams
2- make out-of-sync cam video, active take
3 - right click on event and >synchronize>by slipping.
This will slip the cam from the previous cut to the end and, hopefully in sysnc.

Hope that helps.

To ovoid out of sync issue, I never edit part longer than 8 minutes (and I assemble all the parts in a final project).
For you, a workaround is to remove the out of sync take, add a new track with the re-synced cam and use my script “Add New Take to Multicam project”.

Hey @Rosebud -- am I hearing you have a collection of useful multi-cam scripts out there you've graciously made available to help us other Vegas users? I'd love to check out your magic :) We're trying to give the native Vegas multi-cam workflow a shot, vs the fantastic workflow provided by Excaliber.

Hey @RedRob-CandlelightProdctns

You tacked on to a 10 y/o thread.

Since Rosebud may be off enjoying his new sled, you will find most of the older scripts archived on the Scripting forum here:
