Multiple video formats

Hello Vegas Community,

I am new to this community and just started learning the Vegas Pro 15 editing software and would like receive recommendations and/or instruction from you experience Vegas Pro video editors. My question: What are the correct settings/preferences for editing DV media (mini DV) and HD media (DSLR) together in the same project?

I will be reading the User's Manual as I learn how to edit in Vegas Pro 15, however I just thought I would reach out to experienced editors in this community for some advice.

Thank you!

Dan

Unfortunately, no "correct" way here. The one you scale will lose the most quality, so select the right format for the majority of your source, and adapt the rest as best you can.

It also depends on what format you want your final edited video to end in. If it is just DVD then stick with DV. If you want the final version to be mainly HD then edit in an HD format.

Heh if it is DVD, stick with MPEG-2 (or mp4 if you want more compression.)

DV is AVI; it is ~4X larger than mpeg-2, and 8-10 times larger than mp4, depending on motion complexity. Mp4 (h264)is the universal web content delivery format, over all.
