Mutiple video resolution/aspect (4096 and 3840)

HI, first post so please go easy if this has already been asked.

I have 2 video sources/sizes I am trying to use in the same music video project - one is 4096 x 2160 (tru 4k) and the other is 3840 x 2160 (UHD).

I set the Project Properties to 3840 x 2160 so it is ideal for most TV's.

Now the issue I have is that the 4096 files show/leave a tiny black bar at the top and bottom during editing and render (the 3840 files fill the whole screen at this point which is fine).

Even when I right click the file in the editor to 'Match Video Project Settings', it DOES fix the issue for all 4096 files but then the 3840 files all have black bars on the left and right.

It basically swicthes the issue are around and the Project Properties changes to 4096 x 2160 automatically.

I feel like I am going around in circles. This situation is more difficult from going from 3840 to 1920 (1080p), as the main issue here is the aspect ratio and proportions.

Can anyone help to ensure all files show as 3840 x 2160 during editing/render and the Project Properties stays consistent with this?

4096x2160 and 3840x2160 are different aspect ratios. With 3840 and 4096, use your calculator and divide the those widths by 2160 - the result is clearly different and hence the different aspect ratio. One approach is to put all of your 4096x2160 video on to a separate video track in Vegas Pro and using Track Motion zoom it in slightly so that the image fills the 3840x2160 vertical space.

I would set project properties to meet 3840x2160. For each 4096x2160 clip on the timeline pan/crop tool, rightclick and select "match output aspect". Clip will be cropped to 3840x2160. Black bars will be removed (also left and right of the image will be cropped a little).

Removing black bars without cropping (changing slightly aspect ratio). Select 4096x2160 clip on timeline pan/crop tool, set Source maintain aspect ratio to "No".

AMAZING! I have used this technique which has worked - thank you so much!!!

(the only slight mission for me is now recropping these clips to what I did before sorting aspect ration you fixed for me - mission as there are a hell of a lot of singers, angles etc in this song)

Actually what you originally suggested, not only works, but does also keep my original crop edits - fantastic and thanks again! It only loses the my original crop edits when I Paste Event Attributes (which is not big deal as can just go into each event and do what you suggested)

But your video shows a 4096x2180 project where 3840x2160 clips are corrected. I understood that the project should be 3840x2160 and that 4096x2180 clips should be corrected. It's the same procedure but with a slight other outcome.

I set the Project Properties to 3840 x 2160 so it is ideal for most TV's.

The satellite view of your situation is this:

The rectangles are different shapes
One of them will show black bars, either top and bottom, or right and left, unless you:
Crop, zoom, stretch one image, or fill the bars with "something."
That's it for the physical world.

That said, I would set the project to normal teevee aspect, 3840x2160, and allow the letterboxed 4096x2160 to remain unmitigated. In these cases, the cure is often more troublesome than the perceived "problem." My 2c.
