Depends on what phone and camera software you are using.

Open one of your phone videos in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy the complete text of this report and paste it to this forum. When we know the complete specs of your video, we'll better be able to advise you.

Just as a suggestion, try transcoding the audio via an audio editor like Sound Forge Pro or Sound Forge Audio Studio (if you have either of those) or Audacity (free - https://www.audacityteam.org/ ) or via the video transcoder HandBrake (free https://handbrake.fr/ - but which has a limited range of output audio codecs) or any other NLE you may have including Microsoft's free Movie Maker.

Based on @Musicvid's comment earlier on that he doesn't experience that problem with his front facing camera on his Android phone, it may be that the audio from your phone is perhaps corrupted in some way if it doesn't open in a wide range of NLE and audio editor environments and is then able to be transcoded. The audio may play well in a media player like VLC, but that is not a reliable indicator as to how it will play in an NLE environment.

Apart from the VFR (Variable Framerate) which video editors don't like I cannot see any reason why it should not load with audio.

Are videos taken with your phone's rear facing camera okay?
