Noise reduction on a video clip

Good morning,

I wonder if Vegas Movie Studio 16 Suite has a built-in noise reduction tool on video clips? Unfortunately, I can't find this information in the Movie Studio 16 specification, so I suspect it doesn't, but please provide feedback if I'm wrong.

Or maybe someone more experienced in using Movie Studio than I, could recommend a good plugin to reduce noise on video clips? Of course, I know that it's best to record video without noise, but in my case it is not always possible - I am a lover of nature photography, and in the field I often lack the light :) I will be grateful for any suggestions.

Best wishes,

Arek

One of the best video noise reduction plug-ins available maybe is Neat Video. But it costs much more than Movie Studio. Good noise reduction isn't trivial.

@Ark75

It is important to know what kind of noise you are trying to reduce. Is it grain, analog noise, shadow noise, what?

A frame grab would help.

Vegas Median fx has some noise reduction presets. It is slow, but quite effective in some cases.

Also, experienced users can achieve judicious noise reduction via Convolution Kernel by starting with the Blur preset and designing your own custom matrix.

@Musicvid

Thank you so much for your reply.
Here is an example from a movie where you can see the noise that most often appears in my photos. Usually this is due to the lack of sufficient light because I photograph mainly before and at sunrise, and in my area it is not always sunny :)

That's a tough one, because you've also got a little camera blur with grain striation. Any attempt at reducing grain will unavoidably make the blur appear worse.

In addition to Neat Video and Vegas Median, Handbrake also has Grain Tune and Denoise filters, including super-slow NLMeans.

Some grain in low-light shooting is expected and not that objectionable. I would keep it very conservative, and aim for modest improvement, not expecting to eliminate noise completely.
