I use PluralEyes to align audio and video based on the audio waveform. It works well.

Coming very soon. HappyOtterScripts AudioSyncR--greater accuracy and flexibility for Vegas users and will cost less than a fourth of the current price of PluralEyes. Here's a screen grab of the UI.

And a link to the tool's description. https://tools4vegas.com/audiosyncr/

I've also created a number of demos that should be available on the HOS website later today. The trial version along with a new build of HOS will be available later this week.

Wow, wwaag, I was all excited about PluralEyes (thanks for the post Roger) till I saw the price -- I am just an amateur enthusiast, and while I do have $300, I am also a stoic landlord and we are kind of cheap. I look forward to the release of HOS-ASR.

They have semi-annual sales (or at least used to) which is how I got it for way less than $300.

@wwaag While watching your video I noticed you are syncing audio that is comparable quality to the original. One of the plus points of Plural Eyes is that it is very good at syncing audio of different quality. For example, I previously produced Dance Recitals. I would record the music on a digital recorder taking a line feed from the audio board. All of the cameras were just picking up ambient sound thru their onboard mics. Plural Eyes was able, for the most part, to resync these tracks. Are you testing that?

"Are you testing that?"

Of course. One of the other demos involves long program syncing. https://tools4vegas.com/wp-content/uploads/LongProgramSyncing.mp4

A special thanks to @Musicvid for providing some of the source clips used in that demo and others.

wwaag,

If I may suggest: It would be most helpful and I believe an effective marking tool to make a video or two where you sit down with someone who has the problem that your software solves and you teach them how it work and answer all their questions as they arise during the process.

Years ago I owned a small software company in St. Petersburg, Russia and we did that and it was very effective. I don't know why Magix does not do that -- they are very easy to make, much easier then a scripted video that goes through the features and because there is a person who does not know the program involved, if the expert presenter is not clear on a point, the student will slow him down and ask for clarification.

Reyfox wrote on 6/30/2021, 12:53 PM

@RandyCA I agree with you! I moved from a Behringer XR18 mixer to the X32 Rack. In the FB group I belong to, the owner of the group has Zoom conferences with new users to help them get over the initial hurdle of using the software. He records the Zoom meeting and edits it down for tutorials that he posts.

I am quite happy with HOS, and can't wait for the multicam sync to happen. I use another software editor for syncing videos with a master track and it works every time and is simple for me to use.

Ok, I remember, before I had pluraleyes, making up a spreadsheet for an event that helped me get starting positions for the video + stills based on the medias times. I had quite a mixture of video clips and stills and of course I wanted to have the photos in chronological order.

Are there any plans to include stills in this way? Say using the timestamp syncing.

That's an intriguing idea. At the moment, ASR can sync video events by timestamp alone. As such, I suppose that you could also sync stills. HOS already includes Exiftool which could easily extract the original date, much the same way that MediaInfo extracts encode date from video files. If there's interest I can take a deeper look.

@wwaag “ If there's interest I can take a deeper look” Indeed, it was a christening I did, plenty of people taking photos as well as my video. But, not sure how many bother to include both in a finished product.

Looking forward trying ASR out. Congrats, will it be a separate paid for tool, or part of the main package?

Of course, its just to get a starting position for say a series of stills, or a single still, there may be several sets of stills. The start position for each set is the key. A still takes say 5 seconds on the timeline but 6 still might take up less than 1 second in real time but 30 seconds on the timeline. So, having established the start position for the first in a set, then eventually, within the edit, all events have to be moved, rippled to the right, by the editor, after all other syncing is already done. So in your app, not all stills would need to be selected to sync, only the first in a set, which can be as small as 1.

Some sets of photos may overlap, cover a similar time. In this case the stills may need to be put on more than one track, then an edit decision needs to be made, which set comes first.

@wwaag

When I selected the HOS menu today it said there was a licence issue.

I then updated HOS on my old PC today, 4th machine with HOS already installed on. It’s been installed on it for quite some time, and I have used HOS on this PC. I haven’t made any HW changes to the PC.

I copied and pasted the licence info into the “empty”? fields, verification went ok. Is this simply a periodic check? I was surprised to find the fields initially empty.

Perhaps thats it, but as I recollect (don’t count too much on that🤣) the licence issue message appeared before I updated yesterday.

Anyway, is ok now. I’ll not do clean install in future.

Just wanted to say, as being more of an audio guy who has worked in audio post studios and has had to sync audio to video while being provided video cam reference audio, and a separate better quality DAT tape audio recording and then sending separate audio tracks laid back off on DAT tape to the video editor who worked on a different system, it sure does seem like you video folks can really find a path to turn something with a very simple solution into a very complex problem while seeking a one button press solution for yourselves. 😀
