Preview window lag for 1080p 60fps video

Hi,

When I split clips on timeline, and press spacebar to check the splitted clips it is lagging.

I have a Ryzen 1200 + 8GB RAM + R7 265 GPU + 1TB SSHD is that enough for smooth 1080p 60fps video editing?

The video is:

Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1920x1080 59.94fps 46991kbps [V: h264 high L4.2, yuv420p, 1920x1080, 46991 kb/s]
Audio: AAC 44100Hz stereo 128kbps [A: SoundHandler (aac lc, 44100 Hz, stereo, 128 kb/s)]

I recorded the video with OBS Studio (from webcam), highest settings. Fixed framerate.

Yeah, it's your bitrate that's slowing you down. Try 30 Mbps and work from there, or cut a digital intermediate.

But then why uncompressed AVI with extremely high bitrate is not lagging?

Video: ULY0 1920x1080 59.94fps 509572kbps [V: utvideo, yuv420p, 1920x1080, 509572 kb/s]
Audio: PCM 44100Hz stereo 1411kbps [A: pcm_s16le, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, s16, 1411 kb/s]

Possibly because it is uncompressed?

Uncompressed intraframe (look it up) video, BECAUSE it is ten times larger, takes ten times LESS processing power to decode.

Here's an axiom of video compression and decompression that should be understood before going forward.

"Size, Quality, Speed. Pick two."

When I cut the compressed video, the CPU and GPU not reach more than 50% usage. So it must be optimalization problem. I tried Vegas 15 and it is way better than Movie Studio 14.

I think I stick with the uncompressed FHD avi, It has big size, but I can work fast with it.

That would be the least desirable digital intermediate because of its huge size. Just search the word "intermediate" on this forum for several better suggestions.

Also, search for OBS. settings that are already working for others here. You're not the first to go down this path.

Uncompressed interframe (look it up) video...

Did you mean intraframe?

Woops! Fixed.
