problem when rendering as VERTICAL 1080x1920

daniel-oneill wrote on 1/6/2018, 11:34 PM

Hello,

I am using Movie Studio Platinium 13 and I currently do not have the ability to render my videos with different formats.

I can change the project video properties template, however when I go to render the video it GOES BACK to the regular 1920 X 1080 resolution.

***My goal: I want to be able to edit short movies for Instagram Stories and Facebook stories. These videos however are NOT in the typical 1920 x 1080 resolution, as that is a HORIZONTAL format not VERTICAL.

I want to create videos in 1080 x 1920 format that are rendered as VERTICAL.

As I've already stated. I can change my template and format during my editing however when I go to render/"make a movie" it changes back to the regular 1920 x 1080. This is very frustrating.

I think my current software Movie Studio Platinum 13 does not allow me to create custom templates and formats for rendering movies.

Please tell me what version I have to upgrade to, or tell me how I can fix this problem and finally render movies with the VERTICAL 1080 x 1920 template/format.

Thank you so much.

Daniel

Is your SOURCE portrait 1080x1920?

Is your PROJECT 1080x1920?

Both are necessary. If it's not iPhone format you may have to duplicate that, and Apple rotation flags are not available in Vegas.

I think you should try Handbrake if the above guidance doesn't work. For future questions, start here:

Thank you Musicvid, yes it looks like I shot it in 1920 x 1080. The only thing I did was tilt the camera to the side.

It can be done with MS14 Plat.

1 - Rotate the image 90 degrees using Properties/Media and the Rotation box drop down.

2 - Your project should be set to1080x1920.

3 - Export using a custom template. Sony AVC gave me an error message but MainConcept AVC worked. Obviously you need to alter the frame size to a custom 1080x1920.

The resulting mp4 portrait video played perfectly in MPC-HC. True it was only a few secs.

Edit: It works the same in MS13 Plat. Here's some clouds rendered sideways!

The devil is in those pesky Apple rotation flags, which Vegas does not generate. If those sites still have problems with your files, Handbrake is worth a try.

What I have discovered worked for me a couple minutes ago was setting the properties resolution to vertical i.e 720 x 1080 and then using the upload to youtube option, which promptly failed, but did allow me to save the file generated (to be uploaded (in the correct non-forced format)) which then was able to be manually uploaded to youtube successfully as a short with no issue, this was on movie studio platinum 16
