Problem working with video captured from VHS

I am using MovieStudio 17 Platinum. I have mpeg2 video files that have been captured from VHS tape. I import them into the timeline and they play correctly in the preview window, with the video and audio in sync. However, if I try to render the project to ANY other video format (including mpeg2) I get an issue with the audio sync. It seems that the render operation is 'seeing' all of the audio track but is missing odd parts of the video track. This means that the audio gets further and further behind the video the longer a render I do. I have tried rendering shorter loop regions and some work and others have the issue described above.

I know the video is missing parts because if I render a loop region I actually get more of the original video in the rendered video than where the loop region stops. The program is adding enough extra video outside the loop region to make up for the frames it has not rendered, until it reaches the correct end of the audio track.

My system has a Core-i7 3770 cpu, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 TI graphics card and is running Windows 10 Pro 1903, 64 bit.I have disabled GPU rendering in MovieStudio as it caused the program to continually crash. I see exactly the same issue if I go back to MovieStudio 13. I have never had this issue when dealing with video files imported from my Panasonic camcorder.

I don't suggest analog mpeg-2 capture. Sync issues and low quality captures stand in your way.

A set-top DVD recorder, an Advc 300, or an old Canon Z Series camcorder give you a better starting point

If you will upload one of your Mpeg -2 files to Drive or Dropbox, I'll have a look.

Typo corrected and Thanks @Dot !

Thanks for the response but I am confused. The original captured video plays correctly in any media player such as VLC and also plays correctly in the preview window immediately after being added to the timeline in MovieStudio 17. It is only after it is re-rendered by MovieStudio that the problem manifests itself.

I do not have a DVD recorder so the only option I have is my MPEG capture device.

Editing  mpeg-2 analog captures in a nonlinear environment is notorious for a/v sync errors.

Playing such files is an entirely different matter because a player decoder is different.

Please don't conflate the two separate decoding environments..

The history of such devices with nonlinear editors goes back fifteen years, to the original Dazzle.

But please, don't take my word for it. Kindly upload your mpeg-2 to Drive or Dropbox and I'll be happy to take a look at it, and probably offer a conversion option for you. This isn't our first rodeo, signature below.

Post the mediainfo about your source file. MPEG is not a good source format, but should work.
