Problems trying to move my old Video Vegas 3.0c to a newer computer.

Hello, and thanks for any help anyone can give me.

I'm trying to move my old Video Vegas 3.0c from an older computer to a newer, Windows-10, computer.

The installation goes fine except for one thing. An error that says:

Error 1904. Module D:\Program Files (x86)\Sonic Foundry\Shared Plug-ins\File Formats\wmfplug2.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147024770.

I've tried to install it twice.

I've tried registering the dll manually.

I've tried running the 'repair' on the install.

I've done some searching on the web, but found no help so far.

So, I'm asking for help here.

Again, thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Rickie

Over the years, there have been some reports on the forum about problems likely caused by installing Vegas Pro (no particular version) on a drive other than the C drive. By the looks of it, Windows 10 and/or Vegas Pro is installed on the D drive - is that right? If the OS is installed on the C drive, try uninstalling Vegas Pro from the D drive and install it on the C drive. Maybe the .dll needs to be on the same drive as the OS.

It looks like wmfplug2.dll is a Sony Windows Media File Format .dll as per https://speedutilities.com/dll/wmfplug3.dll.htm - but it only mentions version 3 of that .dll file. Perhaps version 3 is needed for Windows 10 rather than version 2. This of course is only speculation.

Perhaps someone on the forum with Vegas Pro 3c successfully installed on a Windows 10 computer could check the version number of that .dll on their computer.

WMF is an obsolete image format. YOu don't need it. I'm surprised Vegas 3 runs; it has been twenty years....

Try next:
1. Before installing rightclick the installation file, go to the properties and there install it in comptability mode for a very old Windows version, W98 or so.
Install also as adminestrator
2. Install on C:/ where the programs likes to be installed.

Thanks for the responses.  I'm going to try them out tonight.

Yes, I know it's an old version.  I have some personal projects/hobbies I want to work on, now that I'm retired.  But my 'retired' income is somewhat limited.  So, I figured I'd try using it if I can get it to work.  If not, I'll either have to shop around or wait till I can scrape together the money to update/upgrade.

But again, thanks for helping.
