Even if you are able to do this, the files disappear every time you change anything on the timeline.

Just use "Render to New track" instead, unless I am missing your intentions.

@kmaultsby

Yes you can. I experimented with a workflow that took these files from a folder on my media drive and stitched them together to "smart" render a final file. The experiment was a failure, however, as the files would very often disappear or get otherwise messed up due to small changes on the timeline.

Maybe I am asking the question incorrectly. This when I start a new project I want to keep the setting set as to use my M drive instead of my c drive. I just trying to keep my C drive clean. It is a five hundred GB SSD.

No, you are not asking the question incorrectly.

You may be reading the answer incorrectly.

"Prerendered" files are volatile. They go away any time you change the the timeline, so it is hard to see the reason for changing their temporary location.

"Rendered" or "Render to New track" files are durable. They are stored in a place for you to use over and over again.

When you tell us the reason for wanting to relocate your files, it will become easier for us to help.

Hi there,
i am reading this thread, because i want to solve this too. I would like to know if you are leaving the option to set prerendered files folder the same as offered (System Disc)... i don't want to make a mess on my system disc, but if you say its ok i leave it like it is offered.

Thank you guys
