Random flickering and jumping in videos with transitions and effects.

Hello Guys,

I beg for help. I'm editing a video, but for some reason, I have a weird issue where my video is flickering and jumping to random points on the timeline. That's frustrating. I have the original software Vegas 17 365 (lastest update). I'm using an original NewBlueFX, but no matter what setting, codec, or solution, I try - NOTHING WORKS.

I have an i7 9700K, RTX 2080 Super, 64GB RAM. Windows 10.

What have I tried?

  • Disabling/Enabling Resample
  • Changing Pixel Format
  • Turning off GPU acceleration
  • Turning off and changing motion blur
  • Changing the deinterlace method
  • Changing the field order
  • Converting to a different codec
  • Converting to a different resolution/frame rate
  • Render in different settings, resolutions, frame rates, bitrate, nvenc/mainconcept/intel
  • Minimizing the software window while rendering
  • Using an older version of NewBlueFX
  • Removing some DLL plugins from the Vegas folder
  • Rendering to a different drive

Nothing has helped. Here is a video with an example -

Please assist, I will pay 10$ in Paypal for whoever solves that!

Thanks a lot, Eden.

disable so4compound.dll i should add, I had exactly those issues too

fr0sty wrote on 12/20/2019, 1:33 PM

before doing that, update your GPU drivers to the latest studio driver and see if that helps.

Also, download mediainfo and give us a report on the media you are using.

I already updated my drivers and tried both the Studio and the Gaming ones. Thanks anyway!

I haven't tried specifically this fix, and I've just seen a video that tells to disable this one too. I'll try in two hours and will update! I have a good feeling, I really hope it will work because I worked damn hard on this project.

yeah, mine was a flittering train wreck, jumping forward backword, black screens, white screens, like a blender. ALL my weirdo glitches vanished when I Falsed the so4 out

I was having a flickering issue earlier in the year, fading out white text with AVC rendered files, Tore my hair out (what litte l I have lrgt) trying different settings< Fnally realized it was the media players. (MPC, and new and old Win Media Players.) Playback on the other PCs were OK. Files encoded with the Magix AVC / MainConecpt AVC codec did not flicker on any computer or any playback device.

Bear in mind disabling so4compoundplug.dll is not an end all, be all solution and actually breaks compatibility with some formats, so use it as a last resort.

Sometimes I see this flickering in the preview, but not when rendering. Then wrong frames are displayed, which come from the RAM preview. In this case, it always helped to set dyn RAM Preview to 0. May be it help here too.
