Recommended multimedia video container format for vegas project media?

SimonGhoul wrote on 11/26/2017, 12:29 PM

There are many formats, but which one would be the best one? In getting videos rendered, not losing quality, etc

I am not talking about the output, I am talking about the videos you add to the project
Right now I record mp4 but I can also record with flv, mov, mkv, ts, m3u8 (I record with OBS)

mp4 has always been the best but, is it the same when you are trying to edit or render a project? so welp, this is why I am asking, though I guess it doesn't matter but I might be wrong (Also I don't think these formats will be "Better in every way" in editing, so well, you could just tell me which one is better at rendering the project, which one is better in size, and which one is better in quality and so on)
Sorry if I didn't explain myself properly, it's basically just what video format is the best for a project

Open Broadcast Software. Good article about it here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Broadcaster_Software as well as that suggested by Cornico.

Vegas is able to use a wide range of codec and containers.
You have to ask yourself wich setting on your OBS gives you the best results and than if Vegas will exept those.

So is it all the same for sony vegas?

What has to be "the same"?
I thought I was clear enough about your way to go, has nothing to do wit Vegas as editor, exept the possibility to use the made files in that program.

That's what I meant :/ file formats don't matter in vegas

Size, Quality, Encoding Speed.

If none of these matter to you, you are coreect; formats don't matter.

;?)

That was my guess but I thought I was wrong because of Cornico answer :/
Then what's the difference between each format? what do you think? I heard something about uncompressed formats

Go with Cornico's settings or Nick Hope's, published previously. They know what they're doing.

But they are obs settings, no Vegas settings :( I already know I should record with mp4 (the other stuff depends on the computer)

Did you actually forget you own thread topic???

Simon, you're going around in circles again. Good Luck.

Size, Quality, Speed. Pick Two.

you just don't understand :(

What video formats does vegas want to be added into their project?

Is not like I am going to stop using mp4 anyways. I just want to know which one is the most compatible when putting it into sony vegas (but as copernico said, it doesn't matter, it's all the same for every format, no changes in preview or performance)

Record AVC (H.264) (using the x264 encoder) in an mp4 wrapper/container ("recording format, as OBS terms it), and render from Vegas to AVC (H.264) in an mp4 wrapper. This format works well in Vegas and is well-supported for both input and output. Forget mkv, flv and m3u8. mov and ts work but you're probably better just sticking with mp4.

Finally a good answer I guess
