Red screen with .MOV files?

Incobsnito wrote on 7/18/2020, 8:40 PM

I'm working with a lot of footage shot on an iPhone 11 Pro Max at 1080p, 60FPS and have recently been encountering lots of RED screens and footage going temporarily black. I'm on MAGIX Vegas Pro 17.0 Build 452 (on the Magix Vegas 365 plan). My PC Specs are as follows: Ryzen 7 2700, 16GB RAM, GTX 1060 6GB on the latest drivers.

As usual I put all of my footage onto a dedicated SSD for production, recently however I keep getting red screens when playing back footage. I've updated all my drivers, tried the "replace" function and gone as far as disabling GPU acceleration. While disabling GPU acceleration does work, it makes playback painfully slow, even at Draft quality.

Does anyone have a proper solution for this? If it helps, the footage from my iPhone is in .MOV format (would transcoding this help?) I've gone over multiple pages on this forum and following others solutions to no avail.

Any help much appreciated, thanks.

It might. File information is needed:

Understand that GPU support for the 10xx cards is very limited. At the least, make sure you are using the Studio, not the gaming drivers.

Could you provide a short clip for testing? Also, ditto to the request for media info.

Vegas supports the Nvidia 1060 (I use the 1050) for preview acceleration and hardware decoding (though Intel QSV may be more stable for decoding- see the File I/O tab in preferences). I've never seen a red screen but also don't use an iPhone.

The fix is likely disabling so4 decoder, as I've had similar articulating where this worked. Turning off hardware video decoder would be 2nd try

Hold down the SHIFT key while opening Options > Preferences.

Click the Internal tab.

In the field "Show only pref containing:" file type "So4" without the quotes.

Set "Enable So4 Compound Reader for AVC/M2TS" to FALSE.

OK > Restart.

EDIT: I missed the bit about it being a mov file. you would want to turn so4 reader off completely I guess, otherwise woud still be processed by so4? My fault was with mp4

Also:

"A red frame is a VEGAS hint that the GPU returns an error with "internal resources". Please add the vegas170.exe to your NVIDIA control panel."

Thanks for the info, I've added Vegas to the NVidia Control Panel and set the "Enable So4 Compund Reader for AVC/M2TS" to FALSE.

After the peaks and preview rebuilt, this has solved the issue, playing back the clips no longer goes Red or blank. Some artifacts do show whilst playing back in the preview window, but full renders do not have them.

I'll install the Studio drivers when I get some spare time, I think though it's safe to say this has been solved.
