Render only produces partial screen?!?! Movie Studio 14.0 Platinum

Scu8apr0 wrote on 8/23/2017, 1:30 PM

I am brand new to this software. Produced a fantastic 4 minute family reunion montage that I am excited to share. Software crashes most times I tried to render and the rendering time exceeds 30 minutes. The one time it did render it only displays 1/8th of the video. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=2017+beallsville+family+reunion I am so frustrated with this software. I am using Windows 10 Pro, Intel Core i7-5600U CPU @ 2.60GHz, 8.00 GB RAM, 64-bit operating system. Can somebody PLEASE help me?

Also, this reel includes multiple video sources including iPhone video and stills, GoPro Hero3 and drone footage in 2.7k resolution if this is at all relevant.

The photo you have taken of your monitor is very difficult to see properly. As Cornico has suggested, please take proper screen shots and upload them instead. We need to see your Project Properties and Render As settings.

One thing I can see in your Preview Window, is that you are using an un-registered Video Effect - looks like a NewBlueFX. You must register this with a valid serial number or remove this effect completely from your project, otherwise you will get red cross rendered into project.

If my eyes are not deceiving me, it also looks like you have added a Video Effect to the Video Output FX button, above the Preview Window. If the Fx button is blue coloured, that means you have added an effect here. If this was done by mistake, this could be part of your problem. Press Fx and check. Remove if something is there, that should not be there.

A lot of render crashes can be caused by Graphics Card compatibility problems.
Go to Options/Preferences/Video/GPU Acceleration and set to OFF.
Re-boot Vegas and try another render.

I appreciate your assistance. I am now forced to pay for Magix support. I installed an update and now I can't even open the software to try your suggestions.

I also included a YouTube link in my original post so you could see the cumulative results of my efforts. Thanks again

That link is not valid. It says "corrupt" when I click on it.

You're right, I don't understand, it was working earlier.

You have an unregistered effect running on the video. What effect did you add?

Scu8apr0 wrote on 8/23/2017, 11:34 PM

Not sure. I'm planning to pay $12.99 tomorrow to Magix for support so that I can reopen my trial version after installing an update.

Scu8apr0 wrote on 8/24/2017, 5:15 PM

Yeah, I installed an update and now my trial version is locked out. Won't let me open without a product registration key. And sure as hell can't get ahold of support by calling numbers. Apart from this forum, support for this software is infuriating!

EricLNZ wrote on 8/24/2017, 6:39 PM

Were you still using the trial when you run into the problems outlined in your first post?

If not and you were using a full version then you have the required registration key.

Scu8apr0 wrote on 8/24/2017, 6:50 PM

Yes, I am a brand new self-taught user. Still have 22 days left on my trial version but the way things are going, I doubt I'll pay for the software.

So to be clear, you had a Trial version running and you tried to update it to a later version?

Scu8apr0 wrote on 8/24/2017, 7:12 PM

Yeah, no free lunch here. Not a cheapskate but thanks for commenting anyway.

Scu8apr0 wrote on 8/24/2017, 7:13 PM

I had hoped that the update would help me solve my rendering problems.

Hmm. Only suggestion - can you do a system restore to a point before you did the MS14 update.

Scu8apr0 wrote on 8/24/2017, 7:37 PM

Look that one up smart guy Musicvid

Scu8apr0 wrote on 8/24/2017, 7:38 PM

Thanks EricLNZ. I tried.

Scu8apr0 wrote on 8/24/2017, 8:02 PM

The last restore point would have erased my project and the Sony Vegas software.

Scu8apr0 wrote on 8/24/2017, 8:10 PM

My last resort is Magix (pay for) support. Apparently you are supposed to call the sales hotline with registration/login issues. I've tried for days to get through to them but it's always the same thing.... "All representatives are busy at this time." Hopefully Magix will refund my support charge and help me with rendering problems. I'll know more tomorrow.

Normally restore points don't erase data files, such as a project file. But just in case, you could save that file to somewhere else, restore and then try. But usually when you have a free trial they have a way of marking your computer so you cannot reinstall.

I had hoped that the update would help me solve my rendering problems.

You could try and reset Movie Studio by pushing Ctrl+Shift when clicking on the application's icon.

Assuming you have the latest drivers for your graphic card, once you're in, check if you have GPU acceleration enabled (and if so, disable it) - with certain graphics card drivers it creates crashes.
