Render settings for IGTV and Youtube, etc

Hi guys,

I've been experimenting in Vegas Pro 17 with some render setting for IGTV and Youtube. I finally cracked some formulas that work for IGTV, but I'm wanting a little more audio fidelity for Youtube (24-bit if possible).

IGTV:

MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4:

Format: - Audio: 512 kbps, 48.000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo, AAC

Video: 30fps, 720 x 1280 Progressive, YUV, 8 Mbps

Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0000

Profile: High

Frame Rate: 30.0000

Field Order: None/ Progressive Scan

Number of Reference frames: 2 use deblocking filter

Variable Bit Rate

Maximum: 16,000,000 bps

Minimum: 8,000,000 bps

Number of Slices: 4

Encode Mode: Mainconcept AVC

Here's an example of a vid I posted on IGTV using those specs.

I found that for a shorter video Medium profile setting worked, but not for anything longer than 10 mins. My computer barely passes the minimum requirements which is why I use 720 x 1280, but I want to find a recommended setting with at least 24 bit audio since I process my audio tracks with Reaper and iZotope Ozone etc.

Thanks and hope this helps to any stumped Insta posters.

Unfortunately, you will not influence Youtube's abhorrent processing by altering your encoding settings, assuming they are not already suboptimal.

audio is limited to 44khz 128kbit AAC on youtube and from your example looks like 48khz 64kbit on IGTV. Both are low quality (for 2020) but IGTV is really terrible. I dont' think there's anything you can do to make it sound better

1080p standard template can also work, and in phones when turned to landscape mode, it will be rotated automatically to fill.

Of course... it will be scaled down... no matter how...

Do you have any thoughts on a video streaming service that has more optimal encoding for better preservation of the original?

Most of the guys on my end use Vimeo.

Former user wrote on 6/16/2020, 11:05 PM

Yes Vimeo, but as you likely know, people won't stumble upon your videos on Vimeo as they would on Youtube. It's more a hosting site where you send the viewers via other means

You can see the quality difference between the same video uploaded to youtube and Vimeo -

https://vimeo.com/362344920

The other thing to notice is that he got 31,676 views on Youtube but only 2800 on Vimeo

Any recommended output settings that work well for vimeo . . .or are we still not even touching the encoding quality of an average mp4 as noted before?

Well that track was the least among mastered of the one's I usually post, in fact, I only ran it through Ozone Elements. I definitely am going to keep in mind that those are the limitations for both and perhaps master the tracks more thoroughly and with render settings more in line with the various channels that way I have a much better idea of what I'm losing in the process.

I guess I will be putting my hq vids on my vimeo basic account.
