Which program and buildnumber do you use?
And give the MediaInfo of your sourcefiles following this advice: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

Thanks! Do I have to download MediaInfo in order to retrieve this info?

Mrs.C wrote on 10/26/2020, 10:32 PM

I am using Movie Studio Platinum 17. I have a windows labtop 2004 version and my build number is OS Build 19041.572.

Musicvid wrote on 10/27/2020, 5:08 AM

You could expect 4k files to take four times longer to upload to Youtube, all else being equal.

There is a compression advantage to using HEVC encoding for 4k uploading, but it takes longer to render. Using HEVC should also enable "web optimization" by default, which enables Youtube to start processing immediately when the upload starts.

The other things that can affect upload speed are bitrate, framerate, and of course your continuous available upload speed, which is still only 1 Mbps for most of us.

Consider using 1080p for the majority of your uploads, and save 4k for your real "presentation" videos. Despite all the hype, 1080p is still the consumer delivery norm, and will remain so for a long time. Consider doing more 4k uploads when we get ATSC 3.0 (HDR) teevee broadcasts, at a time when your upload speed should also be faster, as well as the format being more accessible to consumers.

Mrs.C wrote on 10/27/2020, 6:40 AM

Thank you for the response. I have used a 4K DSLR camera with a 4K memory card. Will the quality still show good as it would for 1080p?

Musicvid wrote on 10/27/2020, 11:26 AM

I don't know that YT "prefers" HEVC over AVC; nor why it would matter. I do know that most of us prefer uploading 1 GB over 2 GB, that reflecting a nominal compression advantage of HEVC.

@Mrs.C "Will the quality still show as good?"

To who? You are the only critical viewer, so that determination is entirely up to you. I do know that crappy video looks worse when shot in 4k !

Mrs.C wrote on 10/27/2020, 12:13 PM

Ok thank you. I will try 1080p.

Musicvid wrote on 10/27/2020, 9:55 PM

"Default settings" have no correlation as to quality. Not even with CRF encoders.

It appears they do have similar bitrates, though?

PI_Hofer wrote on 10/28/2020, 4:32 AM

Just render it with Magix HEVC 2160p 29,97 fps 60-80mbs (your GPU) - upload will depend on your Wlan - it's fast with mine OK a 20GB-file will last - depending on the Time the youtube server will be used - and the time till YT changes the format to there application will take hours for 4K.

Than we are able to be back in bussiness again for @Mrs.C
Don't know which exactly sourcefiles you use, but if you want to make a render to 1920x1080 out of 4K and upload yourself to Youtube, choose one of the options I show you here. Which one depends on your hardware possibilities and framerate of your source:

Honestly, I appreciate all of the advice as I am new to all of this. I am literally having to google what you are asking lol. I will have to check to see what kind of hardware I have. I am truly grateful for the help. I will be testing it soon. I had no idea it would be this difficult for me just to get a video rendered and uploaded to YouTube. It is so easy to do it from my phone.

Musicvid wrote on 10/28/2020, 9:23 AM

@Mrs.C

Hehe, welcome to the forums. It's like walking into a pool hall full of men and asking a question about your brakes. The peacocks and grouse will literally come out of the woodwork, saturate you with "advice," and the discussion will continue long after you've left.

Post a link to one of your phone videos, let us all compete for attention for another month or so, and we'll come up with a simple answer for you, with only one or two entitled objectors remaining. By then you will have picked up enough bits and pieces and learned enough from your own experiments to do the very best thing for you.

Then you can thank us all for our expert and gracious guidance, every one will say to themselves, "See, I was right," and we will all revise our schtick a little for the next unsuspecting guest, and the world will go on as if nothing at all had happened.

As I mentioned, welcome to the forum ..........; the only saving grace is that you chose Mrs. as your forum title rather than a solo version. It could have been much, much worse.

Mrs.C wrote on 10/28/2020, 10:53 AM

@Musicvid🤣 Will do!

Mrs.C wrote on 10/28/2020, 10:26 PM

I am finally able to render my video using the Magix HEVC 2160p option 29fps using 1920 x 1080 settings. However, when I try to upload it to YT, it keeps giving me an error message stating file not supported. It has been rendered and saved as the mp4 format. I am not sure what to do at this point.

Musicvid wrote on 10/29/2020, 2:36 AM

I should have been more specific above.

As mentioned, for 4k uploads the HEVC encoder is preferred.

For 1080p uploads, an AVC encoder is expected. Use the appropriate Sony AVC Internet template.

Do exactly as I told you with my screenshot

@j-v I have chosen these options according to your screenshot. It states the approx. time left is 4:34 and then it changed to 20:51. I will let you know if it gets rendered and if I am able to upload it to YT.
