secondary color correction and color correction , 3 pics

fan-boy wrote on 2/18/2019, 8:22 PM

update , added a 4th pic , which is the 1st pic in the list . it shows how to color replace using Secondary color correction Single Side , instead of the symmetrical expansion .

comparing secondary color correction to primary color correction . sometimes I want to get at a particular color , and have issues This helps me to better see what I am adjusting with these FX dialogues .

Again, a really useful comparison that is giving you a lot more control than most of us..

Bring it, fan-boy!

yeah , reading F1 Vegas Help , always leaves me feeling a bit unsure of what I am doing ( not just Vegas , other program's Help reads the same way ) Those pics have lead me to a different approach . Instead of adjusting Chroma Key until it looks ok , I now approach it as : Literally select just 1 RGB color , then expand symmetrically "about" that central selected color , to finish the cut ( sounds easy to do , in theory ). Cutting a green\blue screen or just cutting\reducing an areas intensity , or for transparency . Depending of which way it is done , the edge of the cut will be Hard edge , or Soft\gradient edge . "Algorithmic approach to color correction" ? . Primary color correction Help , tells us about the 3 bands low mid high , but never the range of each band . . The sliders all seem to adjust symmetrical from a central RGB , with just a little help from setup ,... you won't read that from Vegas . I now feel more confident when using the sliders. There's still hope .

P.S. I read about Resolve and Nodes in the forum here . Well , as far as I can tell , Vegas using Parent\child tracks can simulate Node structures . Child tracks , independently can have FX , both under a Parent , the Parent can have FX too , just apply Parent FX as "Post Composite" another separate Parent with it's own child tracks can be made . Then both of those Parents can be fed into a top Parent ( Node ) . It's all the same structure . And , like any DOS getting a GUI form Apple or microsoft , Magix could write a graphic icon GUI to Vegas and Hide the Tracks . Even Davinci still has a track interface view , a time line is still in there too . When doing regular compositing in Vegas , I tend to call the tracks Parent and Child . When doing other things , I tend to call the tracks Nodes . The big Audio Mixer does NOT have tracks , The Audio Mixer in Vegas is heavy into Nodes ,...it just doesn't have extra fancy icons . ( using audio patch cords , without the fancy cord icons )

If Davinci has grading that uses a particular node structure , Vegas can do that same structure too . Why should Davinci be the reference to Vegas . If Vegas up's it's FX applets , Vegas should be the reference to Davinci . Magix needs to stop messing with the interface and instead "Up" the FX functionalities . That seems to be the biggest compare between Davinci and Vegas .

Well, they take the technical version which they do not always understand, run it through the marketing wash, spin, rinse cycle, and what you see is, well, ....

You are not alone.

Very interesting post. I enjoy reading things like this on this forum. I do think Vegas gets a bad rap in the color correction department.

Well I enjoy reading posts like this just as much. Works both ways, doesn't it.
