Slideshow Automatically Matches Aspect Ratio?

JDS wrote on 12/19/2021, 3:42 PM

I've got a 250 still image slideshow to make for Christmas. When I manually add photos to the timeline it keeps them with the aspect matched to the source. I get black bars but this is fine as it allows me to see the entire photo. Any time I use the integrated "slideshow" tool in the Insert menu it seems to automatically match the output aspect ratio. I can fix this in the event pan/crop window on each photo individually but it takes forever for 200+ photos.

Am I missing something here? Is there no way to use the "generate slideshow" option and have it keep the source aspect ratio?

thanks,
Jason

I cannot find a way to do what you require but there may be a way I've missed. Adding individual files to the timeline doesn't even give me source aspect!

Adding the ability to control the aspect ratio before importing would be useful but with VMS now a retired product obviously it won't happen.

In Project Properties Video tab there's "Adjust source media to better match project or render settings" but it doesn't help with this problem.

@JDS what version of the software do you have?

Vegas Movie Studio Platinum v 17.0 Build 223. I'm working on a Windows 11 computer. The issue is that i'm primarily using stills from my digital camera for this project and the 16:9 aspect ratio is cutting off a large chunk of the top and bottom of my photos when I use the "Insert:Slideshow" option.

I can go into the Event Pan/Crop screen on each individual photo and "Match Source Aspect Ratio" manually...but that's labor intensive for over 250 photos. When I drag a photo manually to the timeline it doesn't seem to do this.....it keeps the source aspect ratio.
