am starting new project and was wondering whether transcoding to xavc i rather than my usual dnxhd 185 would be any easier on my system (i7 4770 / 32gb / gtx 960 (soon to be rx480)?

original material is mp4 from ex1's. round tripping to resolve for cc'ing and some green screen (eventual distrib on usb as mp4 and of course net (vimeo)).

in the past i've tried a variety of intermediaries, but never xavc i - and i don't really have time to experiment right now.

any thoughts would be most welcome...

ok - spent a an hour or so doing some haphazard tests - xavc i 50i looks sharper out of the box than any of he others and plays back happily in both vegas and resolve. i'll give it a whilr and see how it travels....

Generally speaking, mpeg-2 is easier on your system than h264. for a number of reasons.

That said, differences in bitrates, source complexity, decoder threads, and encoding parameters will have a huge effect on your outcomes. Add HW acceleration to the soup, and who knows?
