Stereo in MXF

I have a wav file that is recorded in Stereo. I also use Sony MXF files as intermediate files.

When I render, and play back the a rendered MXF the audio is no longer in stereo. It appears to have only one of the audio channels.

When I render the same to an alternate format (e.g. mp4), the result is what I would have expected (i.e. both stereo channels are playing back).

Thanks

In the Render as, "Custom template> Audio" tab settings, confirm 2 channels is selected.

Within the MXF container, all audio streams represent a single channel. Thus for stereo, two audio streams are written, one for the left and one for the right channel. If you look at your file properties using MediaInfo, you will see two audio streams rather than the one for containers such as MP4 or MOV.

Thank You. That explains it!!. When I try to listen to the file in VLC, I could only hear the one audio track but it does import into Vegas with a stereo audio track.

It has always been this way with Sony MXF. The audio comes as two discrete mono tracks, not a single stereo track, making its usefulness as an intermediate format limited.
