Strange "Ghosting" of video clips after render

Todd-Douglas wrote on 12/31/2019, 9:33 PM

I have a "ghosting" issue and I cannot seem to figure out what is causing it. Last couple of renders on different projects had specific clips "ghost", that is, you can see a background image from another clip on a lower track. Even after I dragged the exact clip down after deleting the bottom segment, the ghosting is still there! Not seen during review during editing at all, only on the final render cut. Help! I've left out settings hoping its a simple "oh, I've had that happen to me..." issue. Thanks and Happy New Year!

Are your clips different frame rates? You can Disable Resample for events that do not = the render frame rate.

Yes they are same frame rates. This seems to be happening when I render in UHD 4k. I just re-rendered in HD 4k and ghosting is gone. So now I think my UHD 4k render settings need to be looked at. It's just strange that a specific clip held the ghosting even after deleting lower segment and inserting into the previous empty spot on the timeline.

@Todd-Douglas

"you can see a background image from another clip on a lower track."

This sounds like your opacity for the clips in question on the top track is not set to 100%. If it has inadvertently or purposefully been set to anything lower than 100%, you will see at least some of the image beneath. This has nothing to do with re-sampling options.

It's not that. The "ghosting" is sporadic and lasts a few seconds. It does not cover entire image. My arm or hand may appear selected or another object. I should upload a short video. Anyway, this appeared to be nonexistent when I render in lesser HD.

Was Quantize to Frames and Snapping enabled when you started your project?

If not, your video frames will not be matching the frame boundaries. Zoom in and see where there are overlapped frames.

Or is it just blurring from upscaling? There is usually no need.

Yes, at least snapping was. I'm careful about that. This anomaly appears in the middle at times, not on the edges of segments timeline.

Interesting find; the "offending" clip from the camera has the following rates: Data rate = 84270, Total bitrate = 85760. Those "ghosting" segments were the only ones with these numbers less than the final UHD rendered video of Data rate = 95391, and Total bitrate = 95580. BTW, frame widths and heights always matched: 3840 and 2160. May this explain why when I rendered at a smaller HD data rate the ghosting went away?

What encoder do you use for rendering? Have you already tried to render using CPU only?
