Studio 17 can't open AVC MP4 file (yet I can open it easily in S11)

Hi all,

I finally got around to upgrading my old S11 version to 17 but can no longer open files which work fine in S11. The files in Q are AVC MP4 files. Details below. I've tried reading posts on this forum to try and work out a solution and tried handbrake but still can't get these files into S17. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to video files and codecs so hopefully I'm missing something obvious and easy. Thanks

i assume, and hope, you are using the Platinum version? VMS is trying to use so4compoundplug.dll which can give problems. You say they do not open by this do you mean they don't open at all or appear blank?

Anyway go to Options/Preferences and the Deprecated Features tab and check you have "Enable the QuicktTime plugin" ticked. Your old version 11 was probably using QT to open the files.

Try to turn off Hardware decoding in the File I/O section of the Preferences.
