It would help if you would at least say what version, and build you are talking about.
A screenshot of the whole screen would also help to identify which part of the program you are in.
Otherwise it will be difficult......

I'm using the latest version of Vegas 365 and I'm referring to the color picker in every instance, picking text colors or picking colors for generators. It is not accurate totally off actually, when i say off i mean if you pick green you get black or gray.

If you mean this, as you see that's no problem.
So not a Vegas problem, but in your installation or settings, which we don't know.

Yes, exactly that but I'm not sure why mine does not work.

Did you change somewhere the Preference settings? All the important ones to run the program well are at on default on my installation.

Just the typical installation no changes or tampering what so ever!

Sorry I cannot help you further.
Windows installation or missing Windows components can be a reason, but I don't know enough of this to help others.

understood, thank you for your help

I've decided to do a reinstall to see if that works.

This may just be a learning curve issue, and your mature forbearance and patience with both yourself and your new software is both appreciated and important, as you become more familiar with the program's capabilities.

When you just click on a spot in the preview image in Vegas Pro 19/365, it samples but a single pixel, which may or may not be representative of the colors of surrounding pixels. This is also true of professional image editors; it has been exactly this way in Photoshop for decades. So the behavior has some industry precedent.

However, when you click and drag the cursor over an area to select a range of pixels, the color is averaged and more often than not, you will get what you want. This was implemented since we are unable to zoom into the pixel level and sample one individually as we customarily do in Photoshop. Simple enough?

As for your your second question, have you not discovered the drop-down menu where you choose your preferred color palette, including my favorite, which is plain RGB?

Welcome to the forums, try the tutorials first when you face frustrations, and ask patiently when you need peer assistance; although no one is getting paid here, patience goes a long way.

I appreciate the long pep talk and and the advice about tutorials but I've been using Vegs for years, nor am i a newb to editing. Ive dragged, double clicked, drew squares all you can think of, you name it, it just selects monochromatic colors . Sampling a color it not rocket science so don't patronize me please. FYI, I've reinstated the legacy text and it samples just fine, anyways thanks for your help in the matter.

Working fine here. Sorry I don't remember your name from twenty years on the forums; I sometimes do that.
