Quick question, I record in 4K and usually edit in 4K and then render using an HD template to BluRay format. Is it better to set the timeline to HD and edit then render to HD via the template.
@Musicvid Any advice on mix resolutions like 4k, 1080p & 720p in one timeline. Should I set the project settings to my render output? (which is I do actually)
This is often the materials given to me cause I'm a freelance editor, they give me these files & do the job.
I always set the project settings to my final output settings (mostly 1080p50), my footage is 2160p50 or 1520p50 or a combination of both. Previewing goes fine and shows the quality of my final product.
+1 Plus when using Vegas media as text and mediagenerator the made files have the dimensions of the projectsettings and thus as the output.

Good question.
Preview is usually faster if the project matches the source media.
I still do this as much as possible, so with mixed media I set my project settings to the media type that I use the most of, and by doing so prioritising playback while editing.

That's also a quite legitimate approach, especially when there is a predominance of one media format.
Many thanks for your replies. Doug Jensen in his Sony AX700 master class (I have just bought an AX700, many more customisation setting options, to go with my current AX100) talks about timeline zoom in, better image manipulation with 4K on an HD timeline (only if your output is HD).
