Unable to import .mov files

C0v3rG1rL wrote on 7/4/2020, 8:22 AM

Greetings!

I have installed Quicktime as recommended on your Support FAQ but still get an error when trying to import .mov files... and let's say, all files I have to work on are .mov so... quite disappointment, especially since I just upgraded to Vegas Movie Studio 17.

Can you help?

Thanks a lot in advance,

MOVs are not one type of file. They are a package into which any number of codecs can be loaded. What device created these files?

Open your MOV in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy the text of the report that is generated and paste it to this forum.

Once we know the specs of your Quicktime file we'll better be able to advise you.

I ran into that problem. I found the simplest solution was to import them into Handbrake and export them as .m4v files. Worked fine after that.

ouch, thank you for the idea! Unfortunately that is not fast, could I get a refund? xD Or is there an update on the program that will allow me to import .mov and use any kind of file?

4:2:2 JPEG MOV is not supported in any version of Quicktime for Windows, which Apple stopped developing years ago. It is not a shortcoming of Vegas.

If you truly want a refund, you have 14 days from date of purchase.

@C0v3rG1rL Do you have QT ticked in Options/Preferences/Deprecated Features? You need to tell VMS you want to use QT.

Thank you, I didn't know I had to activate that... but in any case, when I try to run QuickTime player on my PC it doesn't run anything... have restarted and such. Running as admin doesn't work neither... I don't get it.

Quicktime Player is a deprecated* 32 bit program. You don't need it, you don't want it, it is just there when you install Quicktime, which I said has not been developed in years. It's an aside* to your main question, which I understand to be about Vegas; no need to sweat the small stuff.

Definitions:

*Deprecate: : to withdraw official support for or discourage the use of (something, such as a software product) in favor of a newer or better alternative.

*Aside (n): : a comment or discussion that does not relate directly to the main subject being discussed : DIGRESSION

At the end I decided to buy another software that supports .mov files. Thank you all again!
