Vegas 15 keeps crashing and it's insufferable.

troyX wrote on 12/13/2018, 4:11 PM

Hello,

I'm using Vegas Pro 15 (bought in the last Humble Bundle), and every time I try to edit a video VEGAS crashes. It often happens when there's a transition (such as fade in/fade out) and I click on the timeline or press spacebar to resume. Disabling GPU acceleration is not an option because I render with QSV and whenever I specify no GPU, previsualization doesn't work. I tried setting the RAM to 0, 200, 2048, no changes. Anybody has an idea what causes it ?

16 GB ram

i5 6600k

RX 580

Thanking you in advance!

(just did it again in under 2 minutes, pressing spacebar caused it this time)

Ya, of course.... its ALWAYS gameplay video.

Do a forum search for OBS settings and look at Nick Hope's FAQ on the matter (from front page.)

Aside: It's nice that Magix does these Humble Bundle deals for charity, but man, every time its an avalanche of gamers complaining about problems with their capture footage... bah humbug. :)

I think we need a separate forum for Gamers. Their problems are unique to that usage.

+1. I would support that idea. It's not that I don't want to help, it's that it quickly becomes overwhelming, and misrepresents the quantity of problems in the software. We need a more efficient way of getting the information/help to these guys. Self-serve is best.

You mean like was discussed here?

Although raised multiple times over the years, I haven't seen anything resembling a response from higher up.

In our house the grandkids were always treated with respect, but they still ate at their own table.

I've had success at getting Vegas Pro to run stable by using the free CCleaner Windows app ( www.ccleaner.com ) and running the Registry Cleaner tool ( see menu on the left side of the Ccleaner app window ), and then rebooting Windows. I've been using the free CCleaner for 5+ years now ( mainly to get rid of garbage files that collect on my computer ) and it's been a big help with getting my computer and apps to run better.

The Humble Bundle price is so low and it being for charity, it almost doesn't seem right to say "bought." Maybe luckily acquired??

I gotta say, I feel very welcome here. Keep it up guys.

I do that a lot, unfortunately to no avail.

Normally for me the CCleaner registry clean-up ( note: this is the REGISTRY clean-up and NOT the standard CCleaner Garbage-File clean-up ) sorts out all software issues, but the odd time that it doesn't ( hasn't happened to me in many years ) and I know that there is no hardware incompatibility, then my only option is to either use another NLE or do a complete re-install of Windows. Windows is it's own worst enemy and slowly degrades over time as you use it ( though Win 10 has been pretty good with this so far ), so a complete re-install often fixes lots of issues, including software stability.

Fortunately Windows 10 has a built-in "Reset" app that will automatically re-install Windows 10 either with or without your data files. ( you choose which reset you want ) Yes, it means that you will have to re-install all your apps again ( a huge pain ), but it does sort out lots of Windows problems. If you want to do a Windows 10 reset, you can find the controls under Windows Settings, then click "Recovery", then click "Reset this PC".

I've been using Vegas since 2001 ( back when Sonic Foundry owned it ) and so far the only version I've had issues with has been Vegas Pro 16, and this was fixed using the CCleaner registry clean-up tool. ( this was on more than a dozen different computers I've owned since 2001 )

Yes, I do that on a weekly basis, and it changes nothing. Went from VBR_LAT to CQP for a constant bitrate, doesn't change anything, Vegas still has a 10% chance to crash whenever I click on the timeline.

Tips for troubleshooting crashing and stability are in this post: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-troubleshooting-crashing-and-stability--104785/ If you need more help, note the info requested in part 24, especially regarding your media format.
