Vegas Pro 14 GPU acceleration not available

Krzysztof-G wrote on 2/17/2021, 3:04 AM

I just noticed that the GPU hardware acceleration has turned off and there is no option to turn it back on.
I am using Vegas Pro 14 and R9 Fury. Win10 Pro 1909

After reinstalling VEGAS it is possible to select "Advanced Micro Device (Fiji)". After accepting and restart, GPU acceleration is not available.
I did a clean install of windows 10, drivers that used to work with and Vegas (20.4.2) - same situation. The first launch of Vegas - there is GPU acceleration, the second - not anymore. What to do?

Regards,
Krzysztof

Try the latest drivers.

Provide the details about your system, please.

Note that a recent Windows Update is causing some problems and is being superseded.

Note that the setting is for Preview acceleration, and does not affect GPU rendering.

THX for reply
Vegas Pro 14 64bit build 270
unfortunately it does affect on rendering with pugin Neat Video 5.3
Neat Video does not detect my GPU under Vegas.
NeatBench standalone - detects and works perfectly.
I will write neatvideo support too.

@Krzysztof-G Another user, see this thread, had similar issues, if you think it might help I can also make available b252 via PM. If you have b252 yourself then try using it. Older thread here.

@JN- THX!!!
I have installed build 252. It works.🙏

Question to support: What wrong is with b270?
How to fix it?
which errors are in b252 that are removed in b270?

Unfortunately b252 hangs for a long time while editing and while rendering to MainConcept mp4 crashes Windows permanently. Is there any way to make b270 recognize the GPU?

JN- wrote on 2/22/2021, 8:50 AM

@Krzysztof-G Have you tried reinstalling b270 again after b252? If so and its no go then b252 is still your best option, unless someone else has ideas.

yes, I have tried many times.
Today I remembered the solution - removing OpenCL.dll file from the Vegas folder.
Couple years ago guys form NeatVideo gave me this solution when their plugin wouldn't work with Vegas.
I forgot about it after reinstalling ;)

andyrpsmith wrote on 2/25/2021, 6:10 AM

Yes tried it just to see if my GPU would appear and yes it does. However looking at task manager and GPU video decode shows 0%.

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

13th gen i913900K - water cooled, 96GB RAM, 4TB M2 drive, 4TB games SSD, 2TB video SSD, GPU RTX 4080 Super, Windows 11 pro

VP 14 doesn't do hardware decoding. See if there is 3D or copy activity.

Krzysztof-G wrote on 2/25/2021, 10:09 AM

there is a difference in speed and smoothness of editing between GPU acceleration on / off
Also I have noticed that rendering x264vfw is faster when VP recognizes GPU especially when the neatvideo plugin is enabled but maybe on my system only

This is strange. I have a Microsoft Surface 2 Laptop with Vegas 14 installed. Vegas 14 will not recognize the iGPU in the 8250u Kaby Lake R processor. I deleted the OpenCL.dll file in the Vegas folder as indicated by this post and now the iGPU is detected and usable. Why is this happening? Don't get me wrong, I'm happy about this turn of events I'm just wondering why deleting this file fixes the issue?
