Vegas Pro 15 -Del XPS 13 / i7 8550U & UHD 620

The i7-8550U is almost as powerful as a I7 7700, but the UHD 620 is 'entry level'.

How well would this work for 4 minute 1080 music videos (downsampled from 4K)

I quite like the look of the new Dell XPS 13, but will the UHD 620 not be up to it?

Anyone had experience with this sort of CPU/GPU combination?

Best place to find video benchmarks is tomshardware. Don't even think of looking at gaming benchmarks.

I've just run some tests on a MSI GE63 (i7-7700HQ, gtx 1070).

1 min 7 sec 4k file transcoded to HD 29fps AAC/AAV NVENC

1) With GTX 1070, 31 seconds

2) With HD 630, 44 seconds (there did appear to be a little activity with the GTX 1070 although it wasn't selected, maybe just screen 'duties'.

3) I added a colour correction and film FX to the track which increased the render time with the GTX 1070 to 1m and the HD 630 to 1m 30secs approx.

In conclusion, the integrated HD 630 takes 50% longer. I use proxy files for 4k so scrubbing was fine with the 630, but it's not so great scrubbing 4k files especially if track FX are used.

So with for occasional use, the HD 630 is fine, and I'd go for the i7-7700HQ or better. The new Dell XPS 13 has a i7-8550U which roughly on par with the i7-7700HQ (The i7-8550U has the UHD Graphics 620 which has a slightly better spec). http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-UHD-Graphics-620-Mobile-Kaby-Lake-R-vs-Intel-HD-630-Desktop-Kaby-Lake/m320744vsm178724

I wanted to see how the current best 13" laptops would handle Vegas, which they will, but perhaps it would be wiser to get a 15" laptop like the Dell XPS 15.6-Inch FHD -(Intel i7 7700HQ, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, NVIDIA GTX 1050 4 GB or if you're minted, the new XPS 15 i9-8950HK 1050i.
