Vegas Pro 16 Hangs at "Adding MS Mapper"

I am a longtime user of both Vegas and Sound Forge. I installed the trial of Vegas 16 Pro but cannot get it to start. The splash screen hangs on the line "Adding MS Mapper." My installed and working Vegas 10 and Sound Forge 11 are both configured with MobilePre ASIO as the audio device. They both also open just fine if I switch their audio devices to "MS Sound Mapper." I cannot change the audio device in Vegas 16 because the program never opens. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas 16 twice, and I have also tried the SHIFT-CONTROL startup option. I have also reviewed the post on "What to do if Vegas will not start," but none of this has helped. The MobilePre is configured for 24 bit 44.1 kHz. I have tried 48 kHz. I have also tried selecting the motherboard sound chip as my default system audio device. Is there a way to set the audio device outside of the application, such as editing the registry or editing a configuration file? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Start Windows in Safe Mode and see if you can get to Preferences in Vegas.

Thanks for the suggestion. Even in Safe Mode, the splash screen still hangs at "Adding MS Mapper."

If another audio device is open or running in the background, it may hijack the mapper drivers.

Something in your startup folder, maybe?

I have rebooted the computer and immediately used Task Manager to see what might be running. There are no applications running. There are a few processes that may be using sound functions, but I have confirmed that both Vegas 10 and Sound Forge 11 still start up correctly if I change their audio devices to Microsoft Sound Mapper.
