Vegas Pro 17: Bandicam HEVC files unsupported

Sylk wrote on 8/29/2019, 6:53 PM

Hi,

Trying to import HEVC NVENC files recorded with Bandicam (v4.4.3.1557) => unknown...

Variable or Constant Frame Rate, 30 or 60fps, same result, while H264 NVENC files (VFR or CFR) are recognized and importable.

Is not Vegas supposed to support the HEVC / h265 formats?

So Why? And do you plan to fix this?

And the audio? Is there no audio track?

Sylk wrote on 8/29/2019, 8:34 PM

Not in those, but same issue with audio (AAC) included (or in separate linked files). However, no audio in the AVC/h264 video, and it works.

I see the issue is already old (https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/need-help-dropping-hevc-files-into-vegas-pro-15--109912/), so i hope that a solution will be quickly found, in 2019 and the more and more widespread use of this codec.

4K HEVC files are loading good and fast in my VPro 17 on laptop from signature and play in preview full at 50p in that preview.
Media Info of such a files

Look

Something wrong with your hardware and drivers I think, but you did tell nothing about that.

BTW, your file has a very low bitrate for those kind of files.

x265 HEVC file is properly imported but not Bandicam HEVC files

MPC-HC can play it, MacX HD Video Converter can transcode it (to mkv) and my GPU is a GTX1080 so i think Vegas unsupport it.

If you Will upload a captured sample to Drive or Dropbox, we can give it another look.

Honestly though, these capture programs are infamous for churning out dysfunctional file formats. Playing and editing are two different sandlots.

You right. I had need to keep old drivers but indeed, a drivers update (436.15) solve this. Now Bandicam HEVC NVENC files are properly recognize and imported in VEGAS.

Thanks everyone for help.

Maybe you find that's the best option for you, but maybe you need to read this forum a little bit better. You installed the newest Nvidia drivers but not the good ones. You use now a Game Driver of Nvidia and you must have thenewest Studio driver. Read this from the Vegas developpers: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/seems-vegas-has-moved-more-towards-nvidia-over-amd-why--116727/?page=1#ca726483

Yeah, that's funny, i just to read and comment it :D

I'll try GR drivers for now, if it is really problematic i'll alternate to Studio and GameReady.

For you not important I think, because also with older (not GR) drivers playing your games you did not miss them, but when you were trying to edit your files with Vegas, they were not "supported" as you said it.
What in your case should than be the most important thing to renew, drivers for your gaming or for your trying to edit?

Here's a bit of a wrinkle. I just updated my Nvidia Studio Drivers to the latest version. Using those drivers with the latest version of Bandicam produces nvenc hevc files that Vegas "cannot" decode. I've tried in all versions from V14-V17. I was a bit surprised that whydat had successfully imported such files. It may be that use of Bandicam for recording requires use of the Game Ready rather than Studio Driver. I guess the best advice is to use whatever works for you.

@j-v

There are periods I devote myself to 3D modeling, or footage editing, and I do not play at all, for a very long time (months or even years) so I admit that in this case the Studio driver is obvious naturally. But currently, I take time to play and edit, so both are useful, one as much as the other.

@wwaag

Oh? Interesting. I need to try Studio driver to check that. Another possibility, it's due to what i checked in preferences about Deprecated Features and I/O tabs, like "Nvidia NVENC" decoder in the listbox at bottom (can't post screenshot or more details for now because Vegas currently encode for half hour, i'll be back).

Ok so, i can confrim that if selected hardware decoder isn't "NVidia NVDEC", the Bandicam HEVC files are unknown...

Maybe a recent drivers are finally not the solution. Need to switch back to my older 388.71 to be sure.

@Sylk

Just to confirm that it works the same here in V17. Can read if Nvidia hardware decoder is selected with Studio Drivers. Still no luck for previous versions.

AKA the HappyOtter at https://tools4vegas.com/. System 1: Intel i7-8700k with HD 630 graphics plus an Nvidia RTX4070 graphics card. System 2: Intel i7-3770k with HD 4000 graphics plus an AMD RX550 graphics card. System 3: Laptop. Dell Inspiron Plus 16. Intel i7-11800H, Intel Graphics. Current cameras include Panasonic FZ2500, GoPro Hero11 and Hero8 Black plus a myriad of smartPhone, pocket cameras, video cameras and film cameras going back to the original Nikon S.

After tests, Bandicam H265 needs both; 4xx driver installed and NVDEC as Hardware Decoder selected.
