Vegas Pro 19 not opening, possible solution

Cmin7669 wrote on 2/20/2022, 6:13 PM

I "may" have a solution to the problem of Vegas not opening and thus requiring the small app (KillalVegas) to correct the issue.

I had thru the taskbar disabled the Magix "Update Notifier" in the startup section. I had done this as I was getting feed up with the ads that Magix were sending as popups.

I have since realised that I could stop these very anoying intrusions through the general preferences tab, so re-enabled the "Update Notifier".

I now no longer have any issues with Vegas opening.

Maybe others might like to try the same if they to have disabled "Update Notifier" and are having similar problems.

It doesn't really make sense, but it bears testing. Will you provide the exact steps to reproduce (1., 2., 3.,...) so others aren't misinterpreting your narrative?

OK, if you are having problems starting Vegas Pro 19 (and) you have disabled the program that loads with Vegas called (Update Notifier) then try this:

Hold down, at the same time (Ctrl, Alt, Del) keys, this will bring up the option to open the task manager;

Click on Task Manager, then the tab (Startup)

Then on the (Status) tab look down the list for (Update Notifier) Make sure it is (Enabled) if not right click and (Enable).

Some may have opted NOT to install the (Update Notifer when they originally installed Vegas Pro, in which case they will have to go to their account with Magix and download and install it. If this is the case there is no need to do the (Enabling) steps.

Clear as mud???

The reason I think this issue hapens is, somehow Vegas Pro 19 is looking for the Update Notifier first before it opens, not sure why killing Vegas works though.

I have never seen Update Notifier running in Windows Task Manager, sometimes another instance of Vegas Pro in memory, but even then a new instance starts as expected. Maybe someone else is able to repro your problem.

Ok, it is there, it's called believe it or not "Program".

Here's how to find it: open Task Manager and in the top menu line, where it gives the fields, (Name Publisher, Status, ect.. right click and add (Command Line) then you will see it. (see picture)

Before your fix( re-enabling Update Notifier in windows startup), when did you see the problem, did it always happen each time you ran VP19, was it after a vegas crash or previous operation of Vegas which you had closed, did you see it after restarting your computer?

Look the problems have been ongoing for quite a while, so I cannot be sure, as best as I can remember it happened after crashes as well as normal shutdowns.

I know there are lots of real fans of Vegas and I can understand that they don't want to rock the boat, but to be completely honest; I lose my patience with them when I see some of the mistakes that go on and on.

I write software myself and have done for many years; if I released my applications with the amount of errors as Magix does I would be out of business pretty quick.

I like Vegas for it’s simple and easy to use format, but will have to reconsider any new purchases of any upgrades in the future if they don’t get their house in order.

Yes it's a historical problem, I thought this might be a new one that would show it'self even after freshly booting windows, because the update notifier was not running.

Another strange thing with Vegas Pro is if I have music streaming on my webbrowser and I open Vegas it stop the streaming music until I shut down Vegas. I have tried the same excersize with Vegas Effects, which does not stop the music stream.

I can't help but think, all this is linked to the other issues with Vegas Pro.

Reyfox wrote on 2/24/2022, 7:05 AM

I'm streaming right now and working on a project within Vegas Pro 19....

And if I play back the parts of the project with audio, there is that "mix" with the streaming audio.

There is a free uninstalled, Revo Uninstall Free that you can try. It will look for leftover folders and through the registry for stray items left. I have the "Pro" version, and use it to uninstall software that have problems that others do not. Usually, after an uninstall, the reinstall corrects it. Usually....

I have same problem, today i try back the clock system to April, surprise! work again! i belive it issue is to force All users to update.

Reyfox wrote on 5/13/2023, 2:56 PM

And what is wrong with updating? You aren't paying for the update. The only versions of Vegas 19 it won't work on are pirated ones. But if you followed the threads on this, you would know the cause....
