QuickTime plugin doesn't decode h.264 AVC files so that won't help you.

To enable 10 bit 4:2:2, try unchecking legacy AVC on the file i/o tab in preferences.

Hello. The trial version of Vegas Pro 19 is not recognizing 10 Bit 4:2:2 (.MOV / H.264) files. All I get is a green preview screen and the clips on the timeline are also green. I have the QuickTime plugin enabled and these same files work fine in Vegas Pro 16 on the same computer. Any help with this is greatly appreciated!

This is usually caused by legacy decoders being used, as they cannot do 10 bit. My S1 10 bit 4:2:2 4k clips work great.

Well, that is okay because my CPU was dealing fine with it

Yeah, it's a real bummer that GPUs skipped adding AVC 4:2:2 decoding support for 10 bit, as a result I have to proxy everything. I wish there were a PC equivalent of Apple's Afterburner cards that are specifically designed for video acceleration and supported more formats natively.

Is that from Mediainfo or from the properties in the file bin in Vegas, I was curious as to which plugin it was using to read the file and other info.

MediaInfo (well, actually the properties from Media Player Classic which uses MediaInfo) so we can understand exactly what the file is as you already posted the Vegas media properties above. Both are useful to see.

Okay so it's 10 bit 4:2:2 AVC. Not surprising Vegas using compoundplug can't decode it.

Works happily here with so4compoundplug.dll (legacy AVC decoding off). Well, it's ~15fps but at least it plays.

I'd go to file i/o and hit default all, restart Vegas and try again.

OT comment. Image size is slightly wider than normal 4k 16:9?

With me on laptop the file plays good and smooth.

Most important setting I think is

that makes for me that the file is decoded through the So4-compound plug in contrast to yours, that uses the compoundplug.

Thank you all for your help. I have tried all suggested ways given here on this post and through them I believe the problem is my outdated graphics card. According to the Vegas Pro help section, hardware decoding works only when the right hardware is available and the media is suitable for hardware decoding. Vegas Pro is installed on my old trusty PC which I still enjoy using for office work and general video editing. However, as I stated in my original post, Vegas Pro 16 reads these same 10 bit files and renders them without a problem. I’ve just discovered the reason is because they are decoded through the so4compound plugin whereas Vegas Pro 19 decodes them through the compound plugin and I can’t get 19 to change over to the so4compond plugin. I have a Mac exclusively for video editing and color grading but I still enjoy using Vegas Pro (all the way back to version 9). I was hoping to upgrade to version 19 but fortunately I can still use 16. And to answer the question about the clip being wider than normal, it’s because I shoot in C4K which widens the shots a bit. Again, thanks to everyone who participated here.

10 bit 4:2:2 AVC doesn't use hardware decoding on any system.

Please do what j-v requests- would be good to see what your GPU is exactly. Also, what is your CPU?

If all this fails you may want to reset VP 19 (hold control + shift and double-click to start) as it normally behaves like an improved version of VP 16 and defaults to the new decoder.

Yes, regular 8 bit 4:2:0 AVC files work great in version 19. These files load with compund not so4compound.

If all this fails you may want to reset VP 19 (hold control + shift and double-click to start) as it normally behaves like an improved version of VP 16 and defaults to the new decoder.

I attempted a number of times to reset 19 but apparently this will not work in the trial version because the dialog box comes up to continue trial or purchase it and it blocks the ability to reset. The reset works fine on VP 16.
