VEGAS Pro to Premiere Pro (ARRI footage & Sony FS)

alifftudm95 wrote on 10/24/2020, 12:55 PM

I'm the offline editor for this commercials project, which required me to make a draft cut in Pr or FCPX.

I have NO experience using Apple machine, let alone using FCPX.

Premiere Pro just pain when doing editing, so I use VEGAS to do my cuts. Luckily the ARRI footage was shot in 2K res so it is not that laggy scrubbing thru the video. I manage to export XML from VEGAS & Pr import it just fine, only problem is that the XML file reimport the same footage into Pr, even tho I've import & proxy before hand.

So I have 2 duplicated for each video in PR, if I delete the clip it will remove from the sequence as well.

VEGAS tend to freeze & crash alot with ARRI video clips, it play smoothly but just crash quite alot.

Also, VEGAS cant import XML file from Pr easily without finding the clip 1 by 1 which take forever, unlike premiere, if u relocate at least 1 media, it will automatic do everything for u.

The ARRI footage detail:

2K Resolution

ProRes

10bit

4:4:4

Try to export / import to Resolve's project and then go re-export / re-import to Premiere / Vegas from Resolve. (use Resolve as 'bridge')

I remember once helping my cousin to continue the editing she did originally on Premiere Pro. Only give whole data to me..., Indeed, I got trouble opening the Premiere Pro project in Vegas Pro, but then through Resolve, finally able to. (can't remember if I have to relocate & relink every media used in the project)

~~ Never tested from Vegas Pro to Resolve to Premiere though... so, may / may not work.

Another thing to try is convert all of your original footage to Magic YUV, and replace the footage in your Vegas project with that, then save your project and XML.

Gonna give that a try

Will I need to replace the clip 1 by 1?

Magic YUV is the Magix Intermediate template or I need to download another 3rd party plugs?

It is third party and costs 14 dollars. Handbrake can batch convert I think? HOS too I believe.
