Vegas Video Capture - how to change the default resolution setting?

Tina_Russell wrote on 9/27/2018, 12:26 AM

I have Vegas Pro 14. Every time I start the included Video Capture 6.0 program (vidcap60.exe), either through Vegas or from the file system, it shows the camera input in 640x480. (I'm using a Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.) I can change this in the device's "Capture Properties" in the "Video" menu, but every time I close the capture program and start it again--or even change tabs within the program (like from "Capture" to "Advanced Capture"), the input resolution resets to 640x480. This is maddening--and a creative disaster waiting to happen. There must be a way to change the default resolution (say, to 1280x720). I am desperate. Please help!

AFAIK is that app not intended to capture video from a webcam.
It is only for videocapture of tape based video as DV or HDV from such a connected camera,
You might be able to capture stills through your webcam but not video.

You are lucky your webcam captures at all in Vegas. It is more of a fluke than a feature.

Vegas only captures the actual recording format. If things are changing on you, try disabling Device Control. An alternate solution is Sceneslyzer or a camera with IEEE 1394 output.

Scenalyzer says "The capture device does not seem to be a DV device!" So, no luck, sadly.

What does "disabling Device Control" mean in this context?

I don't know. Its only something to try in Vidcap because it causes a lot of problems.

'Device control' means remote Play, Pause, FF, RW etc. to the connected device if it is a DV camcorder or VCR.

@Tina_Russell The 640/480 in your device is only for the SD settings, I wonder if its a limitation of the capture fps setting that you have selected, extract from device specs... “30 fps @ 800x600, 15 fps @ HD 960x720 (Hardware Limit)”

Check out the full specs for your device ... https://support.logitech.com/en_us/product/webcam-pro-9000/specs
