Yes, Vegas captures DV over 1394 firewire.

i tried but Vegas couldn’t find the camera. Are there any instructions?

Use only a firewire card with a TI chipset, and install the Windows Legacy1394 drivers on your computer. Turn on the camera, but turn off Device Control in Vidcap. You can try downloading Scenealyzer, a different capture utility.

I downloaded the drivers you proposed and it worked !

i used the Vegas software to capture the video, but I saw that it breaks the video into small parts. Is there any option to capture the whole tape? I saw also that there is another option, the capture tape, is this what am I looking for?

The video is captured in small parts because there is a time code break. ie you recorded the tape in bits. Not sure if you can overide this in vegas. ie do not split on timecode break. Maybe give 'capture tape' a go. Either way all the clips will drop on the timeline as per a large single clip. Select all in the 'bin' and drag the first clip to the timeline. Job done.

There are however; two other capture programmes out there that do allow you to override the breaks. Scene analyser mentioned by 'musicvid' and HD Split.

Yes, Capture Tape, and Disable scene detection in vidcap preferences.

Glad it worked for you. Feel free to mark one of the replies as the Solution, if you wish.

If you can't get it to work with Vegas, for DV capture via 1394 firewire, I'd highly suggest virtualDub. It has h.264 and uncompressed options and I did that method for all my hi8 tapes. I didn't need any drivers except what came with the PCIe card.
