VP19 launch causing other programs to crash "ASIO Driver..."

Teagan wrote on 8/25/2021, 3:47 PM

Hi, I'm having a problem with vegas pro 19 crashing multiple applications every time I open it. Like audio on firefox tabs all stop until I refresh the page and it crashes other gpu accelerated programs when I launch vegas, even with hardware acceleration disabled in vp19.

The point I get the crashes is when the vp19 launcher says "ASIO Driver Magix Low Latency 2016..." and the problems happen.

Any tips?

I have a 3080 with low latency and resizable bar enabled.

Options->Preferences->Aduio Device

Select another driver, or try upgrading your existing ASIO device driver.

I do not have any ASIO devices installed in software components in device manager, nor anywhere else. My realtek Audio for my motherboard is updated to the latest one (however from 2019 December).

I tried all other devices in the audio device list in VP19 and the problem happens with all of them.

I have an Asus DGX Xonar device for my mic and my headset is in the output from the motherboard. If I use both in the motherboard I get a ground loop.

This wasn't happening with VP 17, VP18 and VP19 while I was only on the Asus DGX sound card, and is only happening since I started using my motherboard audio. It's happening on all vegas pro 17-19 now.

So something changed between then and now.

If you are not using that ASIO driver - uninstall it. It looks like some kind of generic asio wrapper anyway.

Asio drivers can and very often do take exclusive control of the audio device. That's probably reason it crashes your other apps when Vegas loads that driver.

I don't have such a thing to uninstall. How would I? I have no devices that say AISO and nothing with that appears in my programs list.

Did you check in windows control panel?

What happens if you type "asio" in windows search bar? Nothing shows up?

It has to be installed somewhere if Vegas loads it.

I assumed it's something that came in VP19 since it says "ASIO Driver Magix Low Latency 2016"

And the only thing I have is from 2014 in a realtek driver in my archives. Not used on this PC.

Many devices are ASIO without being labeled as such -- "Direct Sound Surround Mapper" being one of them. You can disable them one by one in Device Mangler without uninstalling them.

I don't know what ASIO Driver Magix Low Latency 2016 is, but it's probably safe to do without. May have come with another product.

I installed Sound Forge pro 14, sound forge audio studio 15 and RX 7 audio editor x64. Probably in one of those.

Try this: go into device manager and remove your realtek driver. Then, reboot and let Windows reinstall it. For whatever reason Vegas 19 knocked out my realtek driver and went with my ASIO driver. I lost some of the options for audio in Vegas. Never had it happen with a Vegas install before. 19 might have some issue going on.

Uninstalling Sound Forge Audio Studio 15 fixed the issue. Thanks for the tips, guys.

That should be reported to Magix.

@Musicvid, obviously that shouldn't be happening. We're looking into it.

There's one particular error I'm encountering with VEGAS & Sound Forge Pro.

For whatever reason, when I move my audio to Sound Forge and attempt to save, I'm getting an error where it says "No Template has been selected."

I've been scratching my head about it for a while but I keep forgetting to report it.

Never had this problem in VEGAS PRO 18.

Just installed VP19 complete with SF Studio. VP17->19 refuse to start. Spotted the asio error mssg and knew the solution. Uninstalled SF Studia & all well.

Many thanks to those users who found the problem & reported a solution.

Strange that Edius opened OK and sound appeared to be in order.

Edit 2: Tested on laptop. No Asio problem, only main desktop affected. So machine dependant.

Windows can sometimes be a pain with audio drivers.

There was a very classic problem I had on my laptop where the sound would import into vegas as blown up with massive static. I say classic because USUALLY the fix was just reinstalling drivers.

I had convert it in audacity before I could use it. No driver fix worked no matter how hard I tried.

Then one day, I was forced to format my pc because of other issues. When I installed VEGAS again, the problem never returned.

I still don't know to this day what the problem was, but I suspect that its related to Windows.
