VP19 won’t load .mov file with Alpha Channel

Rich Parry wrote on 1/31/2022, 9:40 PM

Upon upgrading to VP19, I can’t put a .mov file on the timeline, I get an error message, see below. I use a .mov (Quicktime) files because they support an Alpha Channel. In VP19 options, under Deprecated Features I have checked “Enable the QuickTime plugin”.

I find my old VP18 projects with .mov files will open in VP19, however, if I start a new project in VP19, I find no way to put the .mov file on the timeline. I am not aware of a file format that supports an Alpha Channel other than QuickTime (.mov), any suggestions.

Thanks in advance,

Rich

@Rich Parry Hi, when did you install Quicktime & when did you install V19, before or after?

Sometimes if a plugin etc. isn't working i go to C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\19.0, delete everything in that folder, Vegas will take a little longer to load next time you open but it will rebuild all those files & hopefully the Quicktime Mov codecs,

You could share the file by putting it in a zipped folder, drag it onto Google Drive, right click on it in Drive & list it as Share with anyone who ha the link, Copy Link then use the chain symbol on a new comment to hare on here, Or use Dropbox.

@Rich Parry @Rich Parry I've copied a folder & I labelled them, some will load, some won't, I'm going through them now with MediaInfo

Here's two,

Will load all have this with the three different sections

The ones that won't load have this shorter two section

I'm going see each one for similarities ...

PS all load into MEP Premium, but it doesn't export as Quicktime. so not a workaround for me.

@Musicvid Thanks, read that link again, no joy. I've had all these working before but not recently, so don't know what's changed, I've tried a few options in the settings. 🤔

Will load

Won't load

Hey Rich, upload your file to Drive or Dropbox and I'll take a look.

I couldn't make any sense to my Mov files, they were all created by Vegas but they were mixed up when i sorted by Date. so i tried rendering a video & then a pic with Quicktime, I have a template i've always used, the old files that do & don't load will have been made with this template

really slow after 10%,

This is that render file, it won't load back into Vegas, i get the same Warning

Here's half a dozen .mov files, some will load, some won't load.

What if you disable the efficient editing warning in internal preferences for now? Will they load?

Former user wrote on 2/1/2022, 1:19 AM

@RogerS SPOT ON! I changed this setting to False, the old files that wouldn't import now do, All of them 👍👍👍🤸‍♂️👍👍 It's been a long night 😂🥱😂 Excellent, love a solution 😎😁

Nice. Hopefully the warning will be fixed in a future build. Good idea but execution has issues.

@RogerS This is what one of my mov files is for, a spinning disk coloured squares that i can add Particle illusion to, Alpha channel works fine, i've added PI to Emit From Layer where it ignores the alpha on the second clip as intended 😁

@RogerS BRILLIANT!!! The NBFX Titler mov files now work as they should because I can actually load them.

I too sincerely hope this is fixed in the future. I was banging my head on this one....

Thanks to all that replied and particularly to RogerS for the solution (work around). For those that can't find the Internal Preferences, it is hidden, hold down the Shift key and select Options, the Internal preferences will appear at the bottom of the menu.

Thanks again,

Rich
