When trying to Re-render a video to be shorter, see older timeline

RayC76 wrote on 9/15/2019, 1:50 PM

I'm using MSP1 6 with Windows 10 pro.

1) I rendered a 12 minute video. No problem, but when I cut out a clip to make it 3 minutes, all looks okay. However, when I render the movie, the final movie is still 12 minutes. Is there something I need to delete if I rendered something longer and now want to cut back? I don't see anything on the timeline except what I want. After the 3 minute point, everything is "black".

2) After fiddling around (oh dear), I figured out how to set the loop region and checked "Render loop region only". However, after making the shorter video, when I uploaded to YouTube for testing, the highest quality setting was 360. I might have accidentally changed a setting. Any ideas?

Thanks.

We can't see what you maybe do wrong, so provide us with screenshots of your whole timeline, your projectsettings and the used rendertemplate, as I do here

Below is my screenshot. Note when I double-click the timeline area, VMS automatically highlight and select my old timeline - up to 12min 50sec.

I've not seen this before. I'm sending you my current settings as of "now". Not sure how I screwed this up. Thank you.

Sorry, but I don't know what exact the reason is.
I never saw that old second timeline.
But I don't or will ever use that dashboard, that I excluded in the menu View/Window and before I start a project I always delete all those prefab Tracks.

@RayC76 There must be something, that we cannot see, left on the timeline. If you click the "go to end" button in the preview window where does the timeline marker go to?

When I click the "go to end" button, the cursor jumps to the 12 minute position. I don't see anything there. Is it possible that I have put something there by accident. Earlier I think I tried to make a text caption, but then it kind of disappear and I don't know where it is. Could I have made it too small to see? If so, how do I find it?

I just remade this video using the Loop Region, but I don't remember needing to overtly specifying this before. This is more of a strange situation that I'm curious about.

Thank you.

Click M at the beginning of your edited track.

Click M at the end of your edited track.

Double-click between the two markers. This will set your LOOP REGION.

Render your defined LOOP REGION.

Of course the whole populated timeline will be selected if you define nothing.

Vegas has now way to know what to render unless you tell it what to render, otherwise it renders the whole thing.

@RayC76 To get rid of your "extra" on the timeline position the marker (cursor) at your 3 minute position. Then from top menus - Edit/Select/"Select all after cursor" and press delete on your keyboard. If that doesn't clear out your hidden item go to the Project Media Pane and in All Media look for the text item. Right click on it and "Remove from Project".

Thanks guys for responding on a Sunday night!! I finally got rid of the "ghost item" by "selecting all after cursor" and pressing the DELETE key. Now if I position my cursor at the beginning and click the "go to end" button, the cursor will be put at the 3 minute mark instead of the 12 minute mark. Phew.

Well through this boo-boo, I have learned some new things about VMSP. 💯

Many thanks,

Ray

Thanks guys for responding on a Sunday night!! I

It's not a Sunday night for me. It's late afternoon on a sunny spring Monday.

As for learning new things I find this (and other forums) invaluable. I'm constantly learning new tricks here. They are usually hidden away in the Help screens if you know where to look, but often not easily found.

Well I was lucky to find this forum when I could not start-up VMSP after installing on a new computer. I will have to hang out here more because I really would like to get more out of VMSP. I'm a competent basic user - nothing fancy. But I know that there are features that I could benefit. Heck I was never aware that there was something that would select all after the cursor :-).

Thank you.
