I haven't seen this in a while, but i remember back in the version 3/4ish days, often the MP3 plugin wouldn't be enabled until it was used for rendering. Try rendering any audio, even silence, to a new MP3 file. After that see if you can import.

There is not even an option in my render dialog to render to MP3.

Correct .. I see the same thing - NO MP3 option.
In Vegas Pro 12, the MP3 option is right under the MainConcept MPEG-2 option.

OK .. this is getting officially weird.

I did some further testing with VP13. I started with a vid from my SONY Xperia smartphone).

1. Imported Xperia clip and set project properties when prompted to match.
2. Render As... did NOT show the MP3 option. Closed project without saving.

3. Imported an HDV (.m2t) clip, set project properties to match.
2. Render As.. now showed MP3 as an option. Closed project without saving.

Repeated 1 & 2 above and now the MP3 option shows consistently with the Xperia clip..

Go figure...

I notice now that .MOV file types are not presented in import, or available for render.

I don't see that. Perhaps your Quicktime is not up-to-date?
I can see MOV wrapped MP4 files on import - no problem.

Back to MP3...here's what I did:

Uninstall/Reinstall Vegas 13. Result -- no change. MP3 import/render options unavailable. MP3 files in existing projects are trash.

In C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 13.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\ Moved the folder mp3plug2 to an arbitrary folder outside of program files as a backup.

Copied the same folder from Vegas Pro 12.0 directory into the Vegas Pro 13 directory.

Started V13...MP3 File import showed up! AND was able to import mp3 files without problem.

Tried to render the project. Vegas 13 crashed before the render dialog even appeared.

Copied the original mp3plug2 folder from backup location back into V13 directory, opting to copy over whatever was in place.

Started V13. All seems to work fine, now. both import and render (At least with MP3 files.)

Same process worked for my MOV filetypes as well: folder qt7plug

It looks like once it is initialized somehow, it'll keep on ticking..

I too tried the VP12-> VP13 copy, but only tried to render as I have no MP3 files to import. Render As.. immediately crashed VP13.

@dand9959

Your process worked on Vegas13 for me today! In 2019! Thank goodness.

MP3 Audio was not an option in the Render Templates.

In C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 13.0\FileIO Plug-Ins

I moved the Vegas Pro 13 version folder " mp3plug2 " to the desktop and copied the mp3plug2 folder from a copy of Vegas Pro 10.0 and put that in its place.

Then I started Vegas pro 13 and tried to render something. Vegas Crashed.

Then I took the Vegas Pro 13 version of the mp3plug2 folder and pasted it back in to the FileIO Plug-Ins folder, which replaced the Vegas Pro 10 version, and then started Vegas back up.

When I go to Render settings, MP3 Audio is one of the Render Template options! Viola! I just rendered a 3.5 hour raw audio file into an mp3 in 4 minutes flat.

Let it be known that if a Render Template in Vegas Pro 13 is missing / a render option isn't showing up, you may have to do this weird process to make Vegas crash with an old plug-in folder and then replace the original plug-in folder and boot it back up to make it work.

Thanks again Dand9959 !
