240fps? help me understand whats happening here.

everett-dale wrote on 11/13/2018, 3:54 PM

I have a video clip from a GoPro that is taken at a frame rate of 240fps, it is 15 seconds long. When I drop it into my timeline it still only shows up as 15 seconds long and doesn't, play in slow motion. The project is set to 30fps but the clip seems to still be 240fps.

I'm trying to create a slow motion video of an event. I expected the clip to enter the time line at the project frame rate and be around 120 seconds long, and run at about 1/8 (apparent) speed. What is going on. How can I get this to work. If I stretch the clip I can only go up to 400% which is slow, but not as slow as it should be. Is there a way to drop the clip into the time line so it enters it frame by frame?

My end goal it to make the 240fps clip play at 30fps in slow motion. It's the whole point of shooting at 240fps

Need to stretch your event out to 120 seconds, the same ratio as your frame rates.

set wrote on 11/13/2018, 4:29 PM

Right click in the media (after putting it to the timeline), Properties>click on "Conform the Project Frame Rate".

(I personally only tried with 50fps media put into 25fps project so far, and never tried with 240fps media, but I think it should work)

Or, if you want to do it manually, you need to combine the clip stretch that limited to 400%, with velocity envelope speed (right click in the media>Insert/Remove Envelope>Velocity)

Hope helps.

So I gave this a try in Vegas Pro 16 with a 240fps video from my iPhone 8+ at 1080p.

Added mov video to media bin of new project.

Set project properties to 29.97fps 1080p

Right click media bin file and choose "Add at Project Frame Rate"

Choose "No" if it prompts to set the project video settings to match this media.

Now when it adds my 10s clip it is over a minute on the timeline as expected.

I probably should have mentioned that i'm using Vegas 13 platinum, so i'm not seeing any of the options suggested above. is there any work arounds for my version?

set wrote on 11/15/2018, 4:39 PM

oh... Vegas 13 platinum is a part 'Vegas Movie Studio' product range... ah, wish i knew... I will move this to 'Vegas Movie Studio' thread.

Greetings to Vegas Movie Studio users, here @everett-dale is asking how to make slow motion of 240 fps to 30 fps using Vegas Movie Studio 13 Platinum version (we thought he was using Vegas Pro)

Anyone knows?

I no longer have 13 installed to check but the options are in VMS14 and I'm sure MS13 had them. But from memory MS13 had Basic and Advanced editing options so everett-dale check that you are in Advanced editing.

I do.
The option to "Add at Project Frame Rate" was not yet available in VMS 13 Pl , not in Simple nor in Advanced Mode

It came first in VMS 14 Pl

so I think OP has to manipulate his events by stretching, rendering, stretching the rendered file(s) a.s.o. untill he is satisfied and off course with loss of quality by the different renders.
BTW
Velocity envelope is a Pro-only option.

No, as j-v mentions Velocity envelopes are only available in Vegas Pro.
