32-bit pixel format red screen

Ice123 wrote on 5/11/2018, 8:25 AM

I edit using 32-bit pixel format all the time, but yesterday something mystical happened. Now when I insert any Newblue video fx plugins, the whole screen turns red. This never happened before. But when I turn the format back to 8-bit, everything goes to normal. What could have possible happened? This happened so randomly. I need help. I use Sony Vegas 13.

“What could have possible happened?”

If you're running Windows 10 or have apps or drivers automatically updating, a lot.

I would switch OFF GPU acceleration, restart Vegas and see if the red screen disappeared. If yes, switch GPU acceleration back ON and restart Vegas. Sometimes, with new drivers, you sort of have to “re-enable” the GPU acceleration. Resetting Vegas may help too but will remove you customized settings.

Since your source is 8 bit, edit in an 8 bit project.

I already had it off :c

So you want to say it's because of Windows updates?

Have you tried switching it ON? What GPU would you use for acceleration?

Have you tried switching it ON? What GPU would you use for acceleration?

I only have an "Off" option and nothin else there. A while back I remember that I could switch to my graphics card there, but it's not there anymore. What does that mean? My graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce GT 610. Would you happen to know what might be the problem here? I would really appreciate if you could help me with this problem or give any advice atleast.

I would check the Nvidia driver version and maybe roll back one or two versions. The GT610 is not powerful enough to help at all with GPU acceleration but should still has to display the preview through the Windows API and an update of the driver could have broken that part.

So you think that a graphics card update might have broken something? Because I honestly don't remember my graphics card ever updating. But if I roll back a few versions, will it affect other things, like, games, will they not run slower?

Depends what is more important to you. The GT 610 is rather old and newer drivers may only partially support it. Not sure if that’s true in your case but I would try rolling back and see what happens.

What if I buy a more powerful graphics card? Do you think the problem with 32-bit pixel format complete red screen go away?

"What if I buy a more powerful graphics card? Do you think the problem with 32-bit pixel format complete red screen go away?"

No one can say with any certainty. My guess would be that a more powerful graphics card would solve some problems and likely introduce others, not the least of which would be a shortfall in your checking account. I have an older GTS 450 in my office computer that never impressed me with Vegas Pro and it does as good or better than the 610 in many categories.

With any card that you pick drivers will be a consideration over the life of the card.

I would first try and resolve the red screen issue, especially when it happens with GPU acceleration disabled. Since this only happens with NB effects, contact NB for advice.
