After the update video clips have green bars on them and scrambled

avalonai2 wrote on 5/11/2021, 3:23 PM

I am using Vegas Post Suit on Lenovo Flex 5 14ARE05 with 16gb. I updated vegas pro 18. After the update my video clips have a grey background and a light green with a dark green bar on top. I went to preview the clip and a few seconds would play then scrambled after then the rest of the clips would do the same without me trying to preview them. I though maybe its was the codec since they were all .mp4 but not matter what video type it began to do the same.

I did the un/re install the same thing. I thought maybe some clips were corrupted but same thing happened to clips old clips that were clean. It only seemed to get worse and it has made Vegas Pro 18 unusable. I've opened the clips in various players and they play fine. I've done the Ctrl+Shift start cleared the cache. I don't know what else it could be.

Any suggestions?

Your all-important file, system, and version properties are needed to make a response.

Thanks, It's Vegas Pro 18 Build Build 527 running on Windows 10 Pro 20H2 Buld 19042.985. System is Lenovo 14ARE05 - AMD Ryzen 7 4700U with Radeon Graphics 2.00 GHz. Main monitor is a Dell Canvas. Every video clip is doing the same even sample video I didn't take. I though it was the codecs.

Sorry, without providing the specific MediaInfo and Vegas File Properties described prominently in the link above, Section C, I don't know how to help you. Seeing that they are MOV and MP4 containers tells me nothing about what is inside.

Uploading an actual file sample to Drive or Dropbox, not Youtube, may also be helpful.

Yes, it is generic AVC.

A sample on Drive or Dropbox would be helpful to determine if this is an isolated problem.

A sample on Drive or Dropbox would be helpful to determine if this is an isolated problem.

Unfortunately, I've got a similar issue in VP18 b527. The display in the preview window will randomly lose all FX (project, track and event levels all) and go into a sort of flickering mode as well as black. Strange corruptions of the image like the OP's will occur. Or the image will freeze in the preview window and then its necessary to close VP by the Task Manager. The other day, I uninstalled b527 and re-installed b482 (where the project displays without a problem) to check the settings especially Deprecated Features and File I/O so as to replicate those settings in b527 once it was re-installed. I've tried virtually every combination of the File I/O settings along with 'Allow Legacy GPU renders' in Deprecated Features and GPU Acc on or off in Preferences/Video. The only thing that reduced the display problems in b527 was turning off the Hardware Decoder in File I/O. But it was only a reduction, not elimination.

What worked well in b482 was:

File I/O

Enable legacy AVC decoding - checked

Enable legacy HEVC decoding - checked\

Enable MKV Render (experimental) - not checked}

Deprecated Features

Allow legacy GPU rendering - checked

Nothing else checked.

Interestingly, there was no option other than 'off' in b482 for the Hardware decoder option in File I/O.

So today, it was out with b527 and back to b482.

I was hoping it was a driver and it still might be but fix seemed to be to swithch the tumbnail view in the explorer to list view. The all play in the video preview fine after that. I did install the video drivers directly from the amd since the Lenovo drivers havn't been updated since Jan 2020.

@avalonai2 @Dexcon Shortly after thumbnail preview was added, there were lots of issues, since fixed. I personally only ever use anything except list or similar. Some users of course get value from this feature.

Curious if this is tied into both users?

I have the same exact problem. I'm not nearly as knowledgeable about all the tech specs and file systems and codecs, etc. I need help reverting back to the previous version I had before I updated it today. I don't know the version name but I downloaded it in March 2021. Please help! I don't know what I'm doing or how to fix this and I've got projects I've already been paid for that I can't complete

Dexcon wrote on 5/13/2021, 6:10 PM

@Carleton-King  ... The previous build of Vegas Pro 18 is build 482. There is a link to download the full 482 program in the following post:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-18-update-4-build-482--127859/

Before installing it, you will need to uninstall build 527.

If you've already got the full b482 .exe file (nearly 760 MB) stored away on your computer or other storage device, then you can skip the download, uninstall 527 and then install 482 using the March 482 .exe file.

Thank you. I will definitely try this. How do I uninstall build 527? Is there a demo video for that or something?

Dexcon wrote on 5/13/2021, 6:26 PM

Far L hand of Window 10's task bar is the Start icon. R click it. At the top of the context window that opens is 'Apps and Features'. Click on it. The window that opens has a list of all your installed programs. Scroll down to Vegas Pro 18.0. Click on it and then click on the Uninstall button and then follow up with any permissions to uninstall that may then be requested.

After the uninstall has been completed, go to the b482's .exe file and click on that .exe file. The install process will then begin and you will need to provide some permission and other responses as part of the install process.

I ended up up returning the laptop because the vram was too low and it wasn't acting as it should. I don't know if it was the problem. My old laptop doesn't have the same problem.

The update I returned the laptop for another brand same specs but faster better graphics. I went all in full steam ahead installed Vegas Post. Everything went smoothly until I loaded up some clips to test and the green bars are back. SO I see someone else had a similar problem since no more post about it still happening time to try b482.

Does it look okay on the laptop screen? I wonder if the Dell Canvass is an issue?

@avalonai2 As was already mentioned, a sample for other users to test would be useful.
