After years of using Vegas I am about to switch

Former user wrote on 3/22/2022, 6:29 PM

A while back I switched pc's and reinstalled Vegas Pro 17. Ever since then, and this was not a problem before, 1) I cannot make a custom render template, it simply will not stick (I've totally given up on that issue) 2) whenever I start Vegas, it kills my audio. I use VoiceMeeter for my mic and have to restart the engine on it after Vegas boots up. A minor issue but annoying. 3) Now, out of nowhere, I go to make a new video, drop a clip in and the preview plays at warp speed with no sound. Can someone tell me how to fix either #2 or #3??

  1. You must rename a custom render template to a unique name in order to save it. A common beginner problem.
  2. Voicemeeter always hijacks your audio drivers. Not a Vegas issue! You can try something else in Options->Preferences->Audio Device, but unless you are deeply familiar with ASIO internal settings, I simply do not recommend trying. I distinctly remember giving you this same answer previously.
  3. You are probably trying to edit Variable Frame Rate video source in Vegas 17. Don't do that, but transcode to CFR first in Handbrake or another utility.
  4. "After years of using Vegas," I wonder why you are just now experiencing these common, completely solvable issues, why we haven't seen you on the forum prior to this month, and why you haven't provided any of the Required Information for Troubleshooting, just curious.

Welcome to the peer support area for Vegas Pro, and we look forward to helping patient, considerate new users such as you as time goes on.

1. I have gone thru all of that on a previous post, I supplied all asked for info and no one had a solution, the only person that was responding stopped responding.

2. You may be right but it's strange that I never experienced it with Vegas before this, and no other software I use has any problem with VM, also, I didn't say that VM was hijacking my audio drivers, I said Vegas kills my VM.

3. I have no idea what that term means. It does not matter if the video comes from game capture, my gopro, my phone or my Osmo pocket. When I drop it on the timeline it plays super fast without any audio.

4. I have been on the forums, I also wonder why I am just now experiencing them as well. As for "completely solvable" that may be quite true if you know the answer. I also don't know why your response seems to be needlessly snarky, I am quite frustrated with the software but I don't feel I directed anything at anybody in this forum.

As far as I can tell, your problems are not all caused by the software, and are all solvable with a combination of patience, willingness to learn, and cooperation to explore solutions together. Without meeting those three conditions, I agree, you should probably go through the Vegas Support options at the top of this page, or go with your first inclination and switch to a different software. Best of luck.

Try providing the information requested in #4 like what the system is and specifically what the media is if you want further assistance.

Note that all of the devices in #3 have issues decoding in Vegas 17 so the re-encoding recommendation is probably your best bet. But MediaInfo for the files you are having issues with would still be helpful.

If Vegas used to work well but no longer you can also reset it to defaults without losing any project files.

This might be because VEGAS Pro will request to access your microphone. So you can try to enable or disable Vegas' microphone accessing following this at 01:49 :

3) Now, out of nowhere, I go to make a new video, drop a clip in and the preview plays at warp speed with no sound. Can someone tell me how to fix either #2 or #3??

This might be because your video's audio stream is encoded with some weird codecs, like AC3, PCM ,etc. So you can try keeping your video and only convert audio to AAC like this :

Thanks for the answers so far. Maybe there is a history to this forum that I don't know about but I don't why "patience and willingness to learn" keeps getting brought up by some people. If I wasn't, I would not be looking for answers and making my own videos. Please stop, making comments like this adds nothing to convo.

That being said, I never use my mic with Vegas so I will look to that change, thanks. Below is my info:

Vegas: Version 17.0 Build 455

Windows: Win10 Pro Ver 21H1

@Former user - You’ve been given much help, attention and assistance, not just in this Thread but in all the others you’ve made, going back three years. Until you respond with the information that’s been asked for, I don’t see how we can move forward, do you?

I just posted OS and Vegas Version, I don't know what other info is needed.

Actually, scratch that. I'm done looking for help here. Aside from one person offering help, this has to be one of the most passive aggressive series of responses I've seen on a forum in quite some time. I don't know if I offended people by expressing frustration with the software and switching from it but I'll find help, or another app, elsewhere.

For the media this is what is helpful- MediaInfo for the main files you use.
https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

Also what is your CPU and GPU.

(this is under C - YOU WANT A QUICK ANSWER?) in the thread linked to before.

If you don't provide even basic information people can't help you and we just waste our time asking the same questions over and over again. I did suggest MediaInfo already.

Maybe a good idea to implement Mediainfo directly in Vegaspro. (also Voukoder) Would make it easier to solve a lot of issues.

Dude, people like Grazie and I have been working with Vegas since we were beta-testing for Sony from the early 2000's and even before Sony bought the software off the original creators of Sound Forge (like, late 1990's!!). There have been teething problems of course, development issues, new tech / codecs / everything changing rapidly situations! etc etc, and it's not easy to keep up sometimes. Magix are doing a great job of keeping abreast of the latest stuff being churned out by Dev Teams all the time, so here's an idea! Why don't you ditch 17 and upgrade to 19?? I haven't read all the threads so I can't offer much assistance just yet in terms of your audio and template issues etc, but why don't you just bite the bullet and upgrade and see if that sorts a bunch of stuff out? I'm in no way affiliated to Magix, so I'm not doing a sales pitch here, it's just that I'm running 19 and it's freakin' awesome for all my 4k stuff! :-) Hang in there, Rock and Roll will save you! D.

I made such a feature request, hopefully it will happen.

Voukoder will never happen- licensing issues with certain codecs are why there is a connector that works with Vegas and then a separate program for the renders itself. Vegas Creative Software needs to stay at arms length.

BlackMagic staff won't reply to the developer at all to assist him in coding the connector for Resolve, and unlike Vegas, Resolve has no prores encoder so a fully functional ffmpeg variant of ProRes would be greatly appreciated by it's users. BM may live in hope that Apple one day grants them a license and doesn't want to annoy Tim Apple

@RogerS That's because in a way he's right, some of the regulars on here however helpful they can be often do reply in a passive aggressive way, a couple of times i've got the 'community rules flag' waved it me simply for suggesting that a reply from one of these regulars was patronising, yet they seem to be able to get away with almost anything ! @Musicvid's comments on here def fall into this category, just in this one thread there's many sentences in his replies that aren't necessary, As he states "My last post here"

fr0sty wrote on 3/23/2022, 12:14 PM

I do agree that some users can get a bit unnecessarily snarky with frustrated users (who often are the same themselves, but I digress), and I see no reason to wave the "community rules flag" for pointing that out.

That said, the OP is no longer a member of this forum, so we can be of no further help to them, so I'm closing this thread.
